A while back we wrote the Park Hyatt Siem Reap afternoon tea review, where we got a fair taste of local Khmer cuisine. By now it’s no secret we absolutely loved every single bite, which sparked a desire for more delicious food. As it happens, Park Hyatt Siem Reap dinner is a special treat and we want to tell you all about it. Without further ado, let’s get to the Park Hyatt Siem Reap dinner review.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap
It is always great to come back and see this majestic tree in the courtyard of Park Hyatt Siem Reap

Park Hyatt Siem Reap Dining Room Ambient

Zen-inspired courtyard design is inviting throughout the day, but it is most desirable during dinner time. There are a few reasons for that, not just the pleasing evening temperatures and reflecting waters. It is also about the torches and folk music combined with various acts, including the Apsara dance and Bokator, an ancient martial art.

zen courtyard
For dinner it is even more magical place here.
Park Hyatt Siem Reap Dining Room
“Your table is ready” The words I love to hear no matter where I am.

No wonder that outdoor tables are in high demand, but the cushioned swing is worth mentioning as well. Not only that, let’s not forget about the impressive indoor design of a Dining Room. Undoubtedly, contrasting white and dark brown tones shine brightest in the morning, right along with the comfortable modern furnishing.

Apsara dance
Apsara dance is a traditional Cambodian dance, with its roots dating back to the 7th century. We were lucky to see it while dining.
Bokator
Not only that, during our dinner, we were amused by the Khmer ancient martial art, Bokator

Park Hyatt Siem Reap Food Review

It goes without saying that the menu at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap keeps changing. Despite that, we are sure you’ll find some sustainable seafood and local delicacies whenever you visit. We particularly liked the French-Khmer fusion cuisine fit for all butter maniacs.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap food
Tender duck breasts with pumpkin and raspberry sauce were a great start.

Watermelon Fish Salad

Perfectly tuned trio quenched our thirst with succulent watermelon cubes, dried fish flakes and mint. This simple appetizer made a lasting impression with cooling fresh mint and salty fish. So much so that I made a promise to make it at home after the third bite. Chef perfectly balanced flavors with mint being a bonding element between salty dried fish and sweet watermelon.

refreshing watermelon salad
The perfect balance between fish flakes and mint turned watermelon into a delicacy.

Seafood Seduction

“Dear Lord, that’s delicious!” we kept saying to each other. Now we can say that seafood can seduce if it is prepared with such care that screams perfection. Usually, there is a star on a plate that becomes mine or Ian’s favorite, but not this time. We can’t even point the most prized piece on the plate! So what was on our plate?

Park Hyatt Siem Reap Food
Exactly what the menu said; seafood seduction.

Lobster, Salmon, Scallops and more

Let’s begin with grilled Mekong lobster served in a shell so no juices were lost. We loved the perfectly toothsome texture for which it is praised for and of course, that pleasingly subtle taste. Then there was grilled Norwegian salmon with the perfect crust and tender middle. Another tender delight was pan-roasted Alaskan scallops, seasoned with Kampot pepper. As it happens a tiny bit of Kampot pepper prolongs the scallop’s butter lusciousness.

European Inspired

Cambodian spiced calamari stuffing celebrated tender texture with straw mushrooms. The taste of citrusy kaffir lime and lemongrass went well with a slight smokiness from the grill and garlic sweetness. It was quite the opposite of the European-inspired steamed mussels in white wine. Not that it wasn’t tasty, they were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Basically, the same can be said for the marinated prawns with curry paste and coconut milk.

Best seafood sauce
Perfectly different additions; silky smooth Béarnaise sauce, to die for pan juice gravy, and mouth-watering tamarind sauce.

Sides

Our Seafood Seduction came to our table with two sides and three sauces of our choice. We were very pleased with the glazed young carrots and mashed potatoes. In addition to that, we absolutely loved the stir-fried morning glory that was resting under the mussels.

shaved ice mojito
Let’s finish with cocktail, shall we? Shredded ice kept mojito cool till the end.

Then there were the sauces, Béarnaise sauce, pan juice gravy, and tamarin sauce. Of course, each sauce brought different characteristics from the seafood. Such well-executed pieces barely needed some help that is why we didn’t hold back with dipping the freshly baked bread into the sauces.

Final Thought

Park Hyatt Siem Reap Dinner @ The Dining Room can be described simply as delicious, entertaining and enchanting. We will come back, gladly. The only bigger downvote can be a lack of salt. A few dishes were lacking salt, but it is always better to add some than have it oversalted. However, the flavors were clean, fish and seafood cooked perfectly and service like probably whole nation – nice and pleasant. I must admit that the show with the dinner was a great surprise. It is great to see that the hotels are supporting local artists!

Traditional dance show
Can’t wait to fly back to the Siem Reap and be a part of Park Hyatt Siem Reap.

Want to know more about Cambodian cuisine? Then let me give you an idea that will keep you excited. Below I’ve written an extensive Khmer inspired afternoon tea review that offers an insight into the cultural blend that is part of Cambodia. Enjoying the Park Hyatt Siem Reap afternoon tea is an unforgettable experience that will stick in your memory and inspire you to recreate some of the dishes at home. In case you feel like having some of the western style treats their signature high tea is a way to go.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap
The inner courtyard of Park Hyatt Siem Reap is about symmetry.

Ambiance

Inside the Park Hyatt Siem Reap hotel, is a peaceful courtyard with a pleasant shade and tranquil ambiance. The setting is about symmetry with a beautiful tree in the center of it. An important part of the cooling effect is also the water surrounding the tree. Open space is big enough to catch some breeze without jeopardizing privacy.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap
To us, it felt the best to enjoy our Park Hyatt Siem Reap afternoon tea at the open inner courtyard.

How cool is this oldfashioned ceiling fan!

Altogether is a lovely chill-out place with or without a cup of tea. For the best comfort keep in mind the smart casual dress code applies after 5:00 p.m.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap
For the Park Hyatt Siem Reap afternoon tea one can choose also the chilled indoor space.

Harney and Sons Tea at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap Afternoon Tea

We choose two different teas for our Park Hyatt Siem Reap afternoon tea time. Both were from the Harney & Sons brand, which promises to deliver tea of the finest quality. I liked the serving style, which included the teapot full of hot water next to the standard items. In this case, I could fill up the teapot straight away.

Summer afternoon tea
Harney & Sons tea brand promises to deliver tea of the finest quality. A perfect companion for the afternoon tea.

Rose Scented

Black tea with rose delivered everything the name has vouched for. Starting with the lush rose aroma combined with the strong black tea notes. Besides the pleasing fragrance, I got to taste the roses trapped in the silky liquid. To me, it felt best when I paired it with the sweets or on its own as a pallet cleanser.

Afternoon tea with a glass of sparkling wine
The tea is not enough? In this case, you can order and enjoy the moment with a glass of bubbles.

Caribe

Our second choice also included floral notes combined with some fruitiness. Much lighter with guava, coconut, and strawberry besides the hibiscus and marigold. All rounded up by the blend of black and green tea for more complexity. In the after-effect, black tea produced some earthy and woody notes, while green tea delivered soft tartness to the cuppa.

antique cambodian blade
Here is quite an impressive collection of Cambodian art pieces.

Scones

For the first time, we got scones with a few treats in the same basket. Among all the puffed rice cracker felt like a light starter right before the warm scones. Ginger cookies fitted best right next to the tea, but they weren’t really to my taste.

scones in a basket
For the first time, we got scones with a few treats in the same basket.

I can say that the homemade zesty orange marmalade and sweet mango jam were excellent. Along with the sweet spreads we also got the clotted cream and sour cream. As a matter of fact, the sour cream resembled the cheesecake topping and gave me a few ideas while I enjoyed it with mango jam.

Zesty orange marmalade, sweet mango jam, and clotted cream.

The scones for our high tea at Park Hyatt Siem Reap tasted pleasant, especially when I bit into the crunchy crust. Besides that, I liked the yellowish color and airy interior.

Khmer Inspired High Tea

The local high tea set was divided into three sections of savories before the sweet selection.

Khmer inspired afternoon tea sandwich stand
How difficult is it to carry this three-layered sandwich stand?

Kroeung Khleam Siem Reap

The word “kroeung” indicates finely ground ingredients into the paste for seasoning purposes. Chosen components vary from personal preferences and the desired effect on the final dish. I think that the idea behind our Park Hyatt Siem Reap afternoon tea was to create refreshing bites.

Cambodian afternoon tea
Doesn’t the brother of a famous Vietnamese sandwich known as “Banh Mi” look gorgeous?

Marinated Prawn Salad

Fresh lemongrass was the most noticeable from the herbal mix and it invigorated the sweetened marinade also containing the fish sauce. All together it worked well with the soft prawn sprinkled with peanuts.

Summer afternoon tea ideas
The marinated prawn Salad, mango gazpacho and watermelon salad with fish had a pinch of “kroeung” the Cambodian spice mix.

Watermelon Salad with Fish

I have never imagined the dry salted fish could work so well with the watermelon. Now that I’ve tried it I can say it is absolutely delicious and I’ll try to imitate this salad sometime in the future. For this salad, the chef at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap selected the perfect watermelon; the one with compact flesh and sweet taste. The herbal bond for this contrasting salad also couldn’t be better made of crushed fresh mint leaves.

Beautiful oldfashioned decor.

Mango Gazpacho

Ripe mango with cucumber is another refreshing combination that made a lasting impression. Naturally, it was more to this cold soup than just rejuvenating tonic. It started with the perfect marriage made of cucumbers and shallots along with the fresh mint and vodka.

Hyatt khmer afternoon tea
Each of us got ten different savory dishes next to the sweets and scones.

Warm Selection

Crispy Crab Cake with Roasted Tomato Dip

Basic seasonings for the crispy crab cake proved the right choice to expose the delicate crab meat. Especially because of the divine tomato dip leaning towards the fruity side. Honestly, I could taste cherries in it! That was an incredible bite full of textures and flavors with an aftertaste that put the crab in the center.

Grilled Beef Skewer with Vegetable Pickle

Crunchy pickles with ginger added freshness to the moist beef skewer filled with herbal paste. In addition to that, the crisp pickles and peanuts provided a firm crunch to the tender meat.

Stuffed Fish Cake

This compact fish meat wrapped around the long bean would be very nice on its own. Even so, it was much better when I coated it all in the widely adored sweet chili sauce.

Afternoon Tea Sandwiches

Even though this section of Park Hyatt Siem Reap afternoon tea is listed in the menu as the sandwiches, don’t expect them to be prepared in the western style. My guess is that in Cambodia people eat these dishes often as a street-food meal.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap afternoon tea
Getting to know Khmer cuisine through the tiny bites was a blast.

Num Pang Pate

Obviously, I’ll start the afternoon tea sandwich review with the one closest to it. That is a two-bite sized brother of a famous Vietnamese sandwich known as Bahn Mi. Already on the first glimpse, I felt content by its substantial filling. The feeling only got better once I have bitten into it and blended all the flavors. The most important are the quick-pickled vegetables, pate, and bread all flawless and delectably seasoned in this case.

Already on the first glimpse, I felt content by the substantial filling of this “num pang pate” bun.

Rice Paper Rolls

For this classic, we got minced pork, pepper, sweet basil, and cucumber all firmly wrapped in the rice paper. Next to this crisp bite we got the delightful sauce made with lime, sugar, coconut, peanut, and god knows what else. All I know is that it added that extra dimension to the toothsome roll.

For this classic, we got minced pork, pepper, sweet basil, and cucumber all firmly wrapped in the rice paper.

Beef Salad

A stuffed cucumber never tasted so good! Admittedly the precisely carved cucumber was more of an edible bowl than anything else. But on the second thought, its young skin also contributed some effect to the salad. Slight bitterness connected to the coriander, spring onion, chili and beef, all marinated in the lime juice and fish sauce.

Chicken Curry

Inside the tiny pot, we got two slices of garlic bread on top of the curry sauce. In the sauce itself, I could taste all the main ingredients that were in it besides the chicken and sweet potatoes. That was the coconut milk for the thick gravy along with the curry paste and onion.

Khmer Inspired Sweet Selection at Park Hyatt Siem Reap Afternoon Tea

Local afternoon tea at Park Hyatt Siem Reap also includes typical Cambodian desserts with unique sauces. Just like scones got their specials the sweets got a company of caramel, pandan and toasted sesame sauce.

Stuffed Sticky Rice Cake

The bouncy texture of the sticky rice dough got even more fun after the sweet liquid popped out of the ball. On its own the dough is all about the texture, but once it is combined with something tasty it is easy to understand why people love it so much. First of all, it’s fun when palm sugar with grated coconut showers the mouth. After that splashy encounter things only get tastier.

Steamed Rice Layer Cake
This steamed rice layer cake quickly dissolved in the subtle pandan notes.

Caramelized Banana with Coconut Milk

You know how it goes; if the ingredients are good, the final product can’t be any different. Fresh bananas are always beyond comparison and if the variety is right, the end product is spot on. This was a simple yet splendid treat.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap
Inside the Park Hyatt, Siem Reap hotel is a peaceful courtyard with a pleasant shade and tranquil ambiance.

Steamed Rice Layer Cake

This beloved colorful treat is more about the texture and the looks than the taste. That is why I’m not fond of it, but I taste it to check if there is something I’m not getting. In this case, the creamy melting texture felt all right with subtle pandan notes.

Num Krok

This ball of the airy soft interior has a baked outer layer that carries more flavor, but the trick is in the sauce and spice. I’d change the spring onion for some galangal although the coconut sauce is the winner. Even with onions, this snack can be eaten at any time of the day, even on the full stomach.

Cambodian wooden statue
Historical influence is really strong and we like that.

Final Thought About Park Hyatt Siem Reap Afternoon Tea

This Khmer afternoon tea proved to be all we wished for when thinking about the Cambodian food. All the bites accomplished to satisfy both of us and so did the kind and professional service. With that being said it is fair to add that the afternoon tea Park Hyatt Siem Reap is one of the best afternoon tea in Siem Reap.

We are fond of Hyatt high tea offer since we tried out one in Hyatt Saigon. However, Kuala Lumpur is not Saigon and the competition here is much bigger, in addition to that the high tea lovers are quite demanding. To point out, around KLCC Park is a real high tea war happening and we love it! As a matter of fact, we did our Best High Tea in Kuala Lumpur (KL) article. So please be our guest and check who are the best ones.

KLCC Kuala Lumpur
This is the view from Grand Hyatt KL, where we had our delicious Hyatt high tea buffet. Anyway, here around we have tried out almost all afternoon tea options: Nobu, Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons and now Grand Hyatt.

Luckily, it was weekend when we were in the city and this is the time when Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is serving their High on sugar afternoon tea buffet in airy THIRTY8 restaurant. We love afternoon tea, we like buffets, putting these two together and we are on our way. Anyway, this Hyatt high tea buffet is a different experience than ordinary afternoon teas we are used to. Is it better? Find your answer in this Hyatt high tea review.

THIRTY8 Restaurant, Bar & Lounge
THIRTY8 Restaurant is right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, where the views over the urban jungle are exciting.

The Ambiance at THIRTY8 Restaurant

Hyatt high tea in Kuala Lumpur is served up at the 38th floor, where is spacious THIRTY8 Restaurant, Bar & Lounge. THIRTY8 has an outstanding 360-degree view of the city below. To point out, it is located right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, where the views over the urban jungle are more than exciting.

thirty8 ambiance
THIRTY8 restaurant at Grand Hyatt KL in gold and green.

Besides the impressive look, I was taken back by the grandeur of the THIRTY8 Restaurant itself. It is huge! The restaurant by itself is contemporarily styled in a great combination of gold, green and beige.

thirty8 Grand Hyatt kuala lumpur
THIRTY8 is a 360-view restaurant in Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.

Before getting there, dress appropriately with a smart casual dress code in mind. Our festive spirit was more general – celebrating the good things in life. For that reason, we indulged in a Hyatt high tea buffet full of deliciousness.

thirty8 grand hyatt kuala lumpur
Don’t worry they have also bigger tables for groups.

Tea Selection at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

The palate cleanser is essential when flavors come and go. For this Grand Hyatt high tea buffet, we got to choose from the Tea Leaf loose tea collection. No matter whether you prefer tea or coffee, both come as free-flow beverages.

Coffee with cookies
At the afternoon tea buffet, even coffee has its place.

[adsforwp id=”10626″] [adsforwp id=”10630″]

Ian’s choice Masala Chai is made of fine spices and black Assam tea. At first, it is smooth with a slight bitterness at the last touch. In addition to that, it is also exotic warming tea with a pleasant taste that easily cleans the pallet.

Grand hyatt kuala lumpur high tea
Tea at Hyatt high tea buffet is the Tea Leaf brand. Tea Leaf has a quality tea with interesting flavors.

So-called High On Sugar afternoon tea buffet pointed me into the sweet Morgenthau tea. Mostly because of its fruity mango-citrus flavors and large leaf sencha as a base. It was a good call, full of honey aroma with matching aftertaste. The food selection here at Hyatt high tea buffet is extensive, and there is no way you could choose universal tea right for all bites.

giant cookie
It’s the same with my eyes and appetite – too big.

Grand Hyatt High Tea Buffet is Massive

This Hyatt high tea buffet indeed is high on sugar, like they called it themselves. The selection of desserts is crazily extended, and that’s not all. For a savoury part, you get a la carte menu, where you can choose your favorite bites. There is no need to explain that we tried everything, right? And if that is not enough for you, you can stop at the noodle station as well. Like we said, crazy!

Hyatt high tea
“I want to taste everything!” was my first thought.

Scones at Grand Hyatt High Tea Buffet

Plain and raisin scones are also served at the table with a generous amount of clotted cream. At first, I was missing some jams at THIRTY8 Grand Hyatt high tea. We didn’t get any jam nor have we found any at the high tea buffet table. That, however, didn’t put us off from enjoying the pure clotted cream in all its lusciousness.

Hyatt high tea scones
A generous amount of real clotted cream came with the plain and raisin scones to get us in the High on sugar mode.

The texture of the soufflé shaped scones was light with a delicate, flaky interior and firm crust. The only drawback was the floury taste to some extent. However, that wasn’t a problem after we added the clotted cream.

sweet condiments
What would you like with your waffles or pancakes?

Savories at Grand Hyatt High Tea Buffet Kuala Lumpur

Before we immersed ourselves into High on sugar afternoon tea buffet, we had to make a strong foundation. For that, we checked the A La Minute Menu (their a la carte menu) and its ten dishes. My first order was a salad for a light and clean start. I loved the Shake salad, with red quinoa sprouts, pomegranate, almond, feta cheese, and lettuce.

Shepherds pie
In the fragrant Shepherd’s pie, we found all we were looking for; moist, full of flavor and satisfying.

This was a fulfilling start, perfect for summer lunch or dinner with sweet and sour dressing. On the other hand, the Caprese salad lacked the fully ripe tomatoes. There were a few different varieties, but no rich tomato taste in any of them.  However, part I liked in this Caprese salad was the homemade pesto and mozzarella.

High tea buffet dumplings
Seafood dumplings at Hyatt high tea buffet taste better because seafood comes from responsible sources.

Black Angus Beef Meatballs

Ian’s start at this abounding Hyatt high tea buffet was meaty; Black Angus beef meatballs and Shepherd’s pie. Both dishes were delicious and suited our western taste well. Bite-sized Black Angus meatballs were delicately seasoned and full of umami flavor. They were an excellent match to the creamy paprika sour cream sauce. In the fragrant Shepherd’s pie, we found all we were looking for; moist, full of flavor and creamy texture.

Seabass

We also shared the tender seabass with tofu, bamboo, and cabbage, nicely seasoned with soy sauce and ginger. The fish was cooked perfectly and condiments here were lovely. Another tasty dish we liked was the Wonton noodle soup from the noodle station. Besides the soup, you can also choose all the condiments for the dry noodles as well. We have seen many Wonton stations, but never like this one. Condiments are well presented and the choice is enormous.

Great for Groups

Noodles station and A La Minute Menu for savory tea party food were extensive enough for us to satisfy our appetite. Most of the dishes on the A La Minute menu are cooked, except the salads. Menu privilege is especially convenient when a group of people heads for a celebration. That way festive spirit continues while main courses are brought to the table.

High on sugar
If A La Minute Menu isn’t enough a stop at noodles station will surely fill you up.

Furthermore, joy is more significant when you get to pick your sweets, right? More we were into our dishes more we were amazed. This is not an ordinary high tea my friends. Grand Hyatt high tea here in Kuala Lumpur is one crazy FEAST. It sure is the one that sticks to your mind.

The Sweet Part of Hyatt High Tea Buffet Here at Grand Hyatt KL

How High on sugar is an appropriate name for this afternoon tea buffet, I clearly understood after I examined it. “I want to taste everything!” was my first thought. Especially when every dessert is so well presented, it is impossible to think in any other way!  However, here comes a spoiler alert, you can’t try everything.

High on sugar
Hyatt high tea buffet is a different level of the afternoon teas we have had so far.

The offer at this Grand Hyatt high tea corresponds to a wide range of preferences. It is a collection of Western and Asian desserts, rounded up with ice cream and chocolate pralines. Here we can also add their cookie station and guilty free fruit buffet table.

[adsforwp id=”10644″] [adsforwp id=”10648″]

Nut tart
It’s nuts how extensive the High on sugar buffet is

Chocolate Heaven

I started with different chocolate pralines, all house made of Valrhona and Callebaut chocolate. Every single praline was melting most pleasantly, leaving the beloved chocolaty taste behind. We know Valrhona chocolate from a past. We had it in delicious dessert at Harvest Bangkok.

High on sugar
House chocolate pralines were made of Valrhona and Callebaut chocolate.

Here at Hyatt high tea buffet, the dark chocolate combined with freeze-dried raspberries is the classic that never gets old. In the same classic category is also the milk chocolate praline with chocolate ganache and nuts inside. Last of the luscious pralines was the one made of white chocolate and fruit. Yes, that was a delicious way to choose the next treat with the party already in full swing.

chocolate cake
High on sugar high tea buffet is a paradise for chocoholics like us. Just look at this irresistible chocolate cake!

Hazelnut Rocher Cake

I wanted more chocolate, and hazelnut Rocher cake was the perfect call. Its moist chocolate ganache melted away while the nuts provided the firm crunch. It was similar to the chocolate mousse cake Ian and I loved so much at the neighbor here – Mandarin Oriental Mosaic buffet. Hard to say which one is better, but this is not a race. We had two fantastic chocolate desserts around KLCC Park, and this is a win-win for us.

Red velvet cake
This red velvet cake at Hyatt high tea buffet is nothing less than perfect. Moisty, not too sweet and creamy all until the last fork.

“One more chocolate cake and I’ll move over to the lighter desserts,” I thought to myself when I picked a piece of chocolate banana cake. The first thing I noticed was how the banana taste developed after it got warm in my mouth. Great job chef!

I loved how the flavor of chilled chocolate banana cake kept developing in my mouth. Great job chef!

Cakes and More

He he, cakes and more – what a great name for a bakery. Before switching over to the lighter sweets, we shared the tasty carrot walnut cake. I especially liked the dense texture and how evident the walnuts were. Ammmazing!

Crumble pie
I believe that this crumble pie would be better off without the decoration.

As I was deciding which tart to take, I couldn’t resist the macaron. It was flawless, with buttery coffee filling. Perfect next to the opera cake. Ouu, right… tart! Immediately, the mini chocolate tart sounded appealing, but it was about time I move on. Fresh berries tartlet with cream cheese worked like a charm to get me off the chocolate. It was pleasantly salty and in sync with Malaysia’s growing cheese affection.

Hyatt high tea
Which one would you pick? English trifle, chocolate mousse or mini tarts?

So was the English trifle with fresh berries on top of the cream cheese mousse. Here the creamy mousse completed the strawberry jam and vanilla creme wonderfully.

High on sugar
The hottest couple; profiteroles & cream

We Never Give Up, Never

How far can we go at this Grand Hyatt high tea buffet? Ian’s eyes were already rolling and his belt was losing it. I was losing it as well but in the other way. I will not stop, especially when the taste of everything I try is so good. After all, I must try as much as I can for you guys. Readers are our priority and here comes the apple pie.

Apple pie here at High on Sugar is just like my grandma would makes it. Delicious.
apples on the pie
Apples on the pie are cute!

Apple pie, just like my grandma used to make it on Sundays. Crumble dough which is not dry, yet crunchy, including delicious apple filling with a hint of cinnamon. After this homely dessert, it was time for modern classic – red velvet cake. This one here at Hyatt high tea buffet is nothing less than a school example. Moisty, not too sweet and creamy till the last fork.

Mini chocolate tart
How cute are these mini chocolate tarts? No way, I can’t turn one down.

Did Someone Say Ice Cream?

I know I barely touched the surface of the sweets at this excellent Grand Hyatt high tea buffet. It is not called High on sugar for no reason! A long counter holds a wide range of all you can eat desserts. It is filled with the finest French delicacies such as macaroons, creme brulee, mille-feuille, pistachio eclair, opera cake…

ice cream
Ice cream at Hyatt high tea buffet is delicious. Especially mango-passion fruit!

[adsforwp id=”10626″] [adsforwp id=”10630″]

Obviously, there is also a wide range of Asian sweet treats starting with cendol, pandan and beans varieties. For those of us who aren’t fond of jelly can focus on exquisite tarts of all sorts of ice cream. As a matter of fact, their handcrafted ice cream is a must — especially the Valrhona chocolate ice cream and mango-passion fruit sorbet.

Blueberry Cheesecake
Blueberry Cheesecake is not only picture-perfect, but delicious as well.

Every stick has two tails. Kuala Lumpur Hyatt high tea buffet indeed is outstanding, but there is a room for improvements. First, I would point out the service. Even with the generous time frame, the service could be more agile to avoid cramped table. A bit more watchful service would be appreciated in my opinion.

mille feuille
This beautiful mille-feuille had a firm crunch and luscious mango cream.

Tied to the table is also another notice, which is about the unpractical spoon; it’s too big. From time to time we get not such practical cutlery, and this spoon is one of those. Anyway, this flaw is easy to overlook.

High tea buffet savories
Wok-fried carrot cake with egg and seafood. To be honest, this dish wasn’t really tasty.

As far as food is concerned, the majority of the dishes here are delicious and pleasant. Here and there you can find some that are not so good executed dish, which is just a drop in the sea with all this high tea buffet offer.

Hyatt high tea
We almost forgot about the healthy part at the end of the High on sugar buffet.

Regarding the afternoon tea buffet, I was expecting some afternoon tea sandwiches besides the cooked dishes. Given the thought that High on sugar buffet is continually changing it is possible to expect them on different occasions. The other thing I was missing at this Hyatt high tea were jams with scones.

Conclusion

THIRTY8 Restaurant is one of the cool places to eat in Kuala Lumpur. It is also one of the ways to feel the cosmopolitan Kuala Lumpur by indulging into this delicious Hyatt high tea buffet. With a single utterly enjoyable action Ian and I got a taste of cultural blend that is part of Malaysia. Even more so, if ingredients in the dishes are responsibly sourced.

tarts
Tarts, tarts, tarts. Familiar?

This isn’t an ordinary afternoon tea where you eat some small bites, so you can easier wait for dinner. This my friends is an outstanding feast. Somehow, we like this. Grand Hyatt high tea buffet is an unforgettable experience. Just be prepared or should I say, be hungry.

The afternoon tea buffet also has its very own cookie station.

However, if you aren’t fond of buffets and you would like to indulge a classic afternoon tea, you can try their 3 tier afternoon tea set, which is available from Monday to Friday. Maybe next time we will try out one of those and review it to you. I have a hutch it is a great afternoon tea as well.

fried samosa
Malaysian-Indian classic snack – fried samosa; fulfilling and flavourful

High Tea or Rather High Tea Buffet?

At this point, I must express my enthusiasm for another buffet category that is the closest to my heart. Also, the idea of delivering savories to the table undoubtedly influences the sophistication of the afternoon tea tradition. We have a great experience with Hyatt afternoon teas and this one from Kuala Lumpur is no different. If you are looking for your weekend sweet tooth pleasure, this is a place for you!

Menu privilege is especially convenient when a group of people heads for a celebration. That way festive spirit continues while main courses are brought to the table.

Another rainy day just perfect for another afternoon tea at Park Lounge – Park Hyatt Saigon. We’d been caught in a storm before and when the tropical shower comes you better hide, at least that’s what we’ve learned so far. This time, we reached our destination just in time and when the pouring rain started, we were already enjoying the afternoon tea at Park Lounge. Here is our Park Hyatt Afternoon Tea Review, to show you how awesome this place is.

Hyatt Park Saigon
It was pouring rain when we arrived at Hyatt Park Saigon for this amazing afternoon tea at Park Loung.

Ambiance

The safety of this hall was soothing with the repeated strikes of thunder. The bowing plants outside the window were entertaining but my attention kept shifting to the sparkling crystal chandeliers. It is mesmerizing how the light brakes in all the pallets of the rainbow in the small fraction of the crystal.

Lovely place for Park Hyatt Afternoon Tea Review
Hyatt Park lounge is a classy place. Indulging afternoon tea at Park Loung is unique for sure.
Hyatt Park Saigon
Here at Hyatt Park Saigon, you will find some amazing art pieces. We simply love hotels with an art feeling.

Those ornaments are perfectly suited for the Park Lounge at Park Hyatt Saigon and are nicely visible from the first floor as well. Not to mention this was absolutely the perfect place to indulge in an afternoon tea. Time flew by and it was quite a feast, the tea set was utterly delightful and chic, just like the surroundings.

Tea Selection

High tea should have a great tea selection. Luckily afternoon tea at Park Loung is rich in the offer and the quality is on the top end. From the tea selection, I went for the Jasmin Chung Hao tea from Dammann Frères. It is made from mixed green tea of high quality with fresh Jasmine flowers, which gives it the distinctive flavor that I like so much. The tea was strong in character with a wonderful flowery fragrance and taste, it had an exquisite bouquet and distinct flavor.

 Flower arrangement
Bouquet will amaze you here at Hyatt high tea. Flower arrangement makes a nice feeling.

Ian’s choice was L’Oriental, also from Dammann Frères, a sweet green tea with the fruity flavors of passion fruit, bush peach and wild strawberry that were very convincing to him. The wild strawberry taste was more at the back, where the passion fruit really took over. Both teas were a great pairing for our food.

Scones @ Park Hyatt Afternoon Tea Review

The tea was the king on the table just for a brief period of time. When the bites came, they got all our attention. In fact, they were so beautiful that we had to resist taking our first bite before taking a few photos. With every click of the camera, our taste buds were getting increasingly impatient. The Scones were the first victim, as we didn’t want the warm pastries to get cold.

Park Saigon Hyatt high tea set looks nice.

The first thing that came to our liking was the taste and the texture, where the crust was crunchy with the compact crumb, which is exactly as scones should be like! Then came the homemade strawberry jam and whipped cream. Personally, we would have preferred this to be served with a heavier clotted cream, however, all in all, this first part of the afternoon tea was a good indicator that this was going to be a very enjoyable experience. Hyatt high tea is promising a lot after this delicious scones.

Scones were the first ‘victim’.

Savory

By the time we finished the scones, my jasmine tea had gotten stronger, which was still ok. The bitterness rinsed away the tastes still lingering in my mouth and wiping it clean for the next part of our meal. We started with the sandwich in which we could taste good quality ingredients like ham and mellow cream cheese. It was a juicy sandwich with fresh bread that rounded the tender flavors.

The pâté with breadstick was next: the best part of this dish was the crunchy caramel topping, as it gave the smooth pâté a nice contrast. It’s too bad we didn’t like the pâté. For us, it tasted too much of pork and it could have used more seasoning. We added some jam from the scones and it was already much better.

Park Hyatt Afternoon Tea Review: The pâté with breadstick
The pâté with a breadstick wasn’t the best for our taste. To much pork flavor. We solved it by adding some jam.

Quite to the contrary, the next course of coated bread with air-dried salmon was delicious. Anyway, the fruit caviar and fresh mint lifted the gentle flavors and made for a very palatable canapé. I love miniatures in all forms and this tiny bun was my crush from the beginning. Ian wanted to eat it first, but I didn’t let him.

The tiny bun was my crush from the beginning.

Certainly, it was just too cute and I had to look at both of them all the way until the end of this savory round. The subtle fish taste was perfect with young chives and the sweetness of the crunchy onion. Those savory bites were simply delicious.

Sweets

Before the final part of our high tea etiquette, it was time to refresh my strong tea with some fresh water. Here at Park Lounge was staff happy to refill the silver pot. The sweets from house pâtisserie were absolutely delightful and nice looking. Allow me to describe each of them as they were very distinct.

Detail of tea stand
The detail on the afternoon tea stand here at Park Hyatt Lounge.

Starting with the biscuit cup, it was filled with dark chocolate cream and topped with a spoonful of the cream quenelle. The combination of the brittle base with a rich chocolate topping made for a base slightly softened by cream. Not to mention the Chocolate canelé, which had a dark caramelized crust with a soft banana flavor on the inside.

profiterole
Profiteroles with delicious nutty filling are Ian’s favorite.

The undulating shape of nutty filling made the profiterole more interesting, and with crunchy garnish, it was nothing short of excellent. The chef did a great job of using healthier ingredients for the macaron, and the taste was still spot on. The delicate meringue was made of healthy Matcha with red bean filling in between.

Hyatt Park Saigon high tea
What a petite looking biscuit – a small rose for the big happiness.

The only thing that separated that macaron from perfection was a meringue that was too soft. Anyway, this was just a minor flaw. Our instinct was right to leave the rose jelly cube for last. It left us with the pleasant and long lasting aftertaste of roses. We are difficult to please with jelly, but this one made a good impression when it was melting in our mouths.

Conclusion

The hint of elegance was present throughout the afternoon tea experience. It started with the character of Park Lounge and continued with the tea set, furthermore, we walked through the doors of Hotel Park Hyatt literally in roses. A very classy afternoon tea indeed – and not just classy, this is officially the best high tea in Saigon. To be honest it was quite hard to find a really good one. We will post about some others, but this one at Hyatt is a total winner. Hyatt high tea is something we always are looking forward to. Thank you for reading our Park Hyatt Afternoon Tea Review.
