In Leskovac, we met Marko, our good friend and a local there. He is a very clever guy and there is almost no question, he can’t answer. He taught us about Serbian hospitality in the most glamorous way. In a bar, a waiter forgot to reserve a table for us and that boy got the same hard lessons and owed an apology to Marko’s guests. His face was just like he would be watching some horror movies…

We also met almost all of Marko’s friends, and I admire how they took their time just for us. We were mingling and eating good food with them for three days in a row. One day, they even prepared a karaoke night in the company of red wine from Montenegro. Ian was in a good mood, maybe because of the wine or because of his instrument – a drum. Their songs are very beautiful, even if I didn’t understand them. Anyway, they sang also well-known English songs, so we participated in this amazing performance as well.

When I expressed my kaymak mania, Marko promised to take us to the place where there was the best kaymak in town. The next day we opted for a light meal, still warm local flatbread with kaymak and nothing more. I must admit that I have never eaten so good kaymak before. Frankly, I could eat that all week long. How thoughtful this person can be! I think if I would like to ride an elephant in this city, I most certainly would.

For me personally, this is outstanding, how hospitality these people can be. Every day I learn something new, and this is well written in my memory. This article is written as a tribute to our Leskovac friends. I love you all!

Leskovac is a well-known place for one important thing – food. Grill or BBQ is here essential equipment for every local with food. I think even those one without food, have some BBQ somewhere. To find good food in this city surely isn’t a hard task. Not to mention all that tasty BBQ meat from the place. Witty, the biggest “pljeskavica” (similar to hamburger) in the world was right here in this city. Once a year they have a parade called “Rostiljijada, ”or Barbecue Week. In this period, the whole city smells good and the scene can be described as – “the silence of the lambs”. Tasty lambs are baking everywhere. We made a promise to our new friends from Leskovac that we’ll visit this parade and them again. Their main star is cevapcici, which is made of seasoned ground meat molded into a small roll and then baked on the grill. We wrote about this gourmet the other day, so just please check it.

Leskovac is worth visiting also for more than a century-old hydroelectric power plant. The power plant is still operational! Djordje Stanojevic, a friend of Nikola Tesla, was intimately involved in this project and made Leskovac one of the first cities in Europe illuminated by hydroelectric power. The Vucje power plant sure is a special one. That is why it’s included in the World heritage of technology. Vucjak canyon is located 9 miles south of Leskovac and when you get there you are surrounded by nature. Hydroelectric power plant still works with their original motors from 1903. Around the plant, there is an amazing hiking route. Ian wanted to record some scenes with a drone, but he got attacked by Serbian eagle. Three or four were circling around his drone, so he aborted the operation after ten minutes. The weather was a bit too harsh for some stunning photography as well, so this place still owes us photo reportage next time.

To summarize, the city itself is not a big attraction. However, their residents, with their hospitality manners and amazingly good food, are outstanding. And believe me, my friends it’s totally worth to visit this place, just to try specialties and relax in a judgment-free zone. This article is written as a tribute to our Leskovac friends. I love you all!
