This time we will wander in Cambodian Siem Reap street. Pub street here is surely a place you will visit and we recommend you don’t miss the Miss Wong Cocktail Siem Reap Bar. This is a famous cocktail bar in Siem Reap, well-loved by expats and visitors. You’ll get the exact location at the bottom of the bar review so relax now let us tell you more about this stunning spot.

miss wong siem reap
If you are looking for a neat place to have a cocktail here in Siem Reap, Miss Wong might be your answer.

About Miss Wong

Miss Wong is the name of a portrait, painted by a self-taught artist Vladimir Tretchikoff. The famous portrait of successful Russian artist Tretchikoff happened only by coincidence. Somewhere in the early 1950s, Miss Wong bumped into Tretchikoff in Cape Town, where he immediately decided he wanted to paint her. His realistic style is very inspiring and truly shines in this portrait, which has been reproduced many times. There are many items where we can find Miss Wong and this diversity can be a parallel with the artist’s life. In his 92 years, he lived on three continents with countless twists and turns.

This is Miss Wong.

Miss Wong Siem Reap Bar Ambience

Strong Chinese influence is obvious from far with iconic lanterns and red walls. Contrasting wooden furniture divides attention with dark furnishing that compliments live plants really well. Of course, you’ll find the iconic Miss Wong in the most obvious places, but you’ll see many different art pieces on the walls. Most of all we admired vintage pieces for their emblematic charm and authentic Shanghai touch. However, the contrasting blend of old & new, local & distant was equally impressive. Miss Wong Cocktail Bar in Siem Reap truly is a unique place where you’ll relax under the iconic dimmed lights in the speakeasy way.

A lot of red and golden details is a theme here.

Miss Wong Siem Reap Bar Menu

Our focus at the Miss Wong Bar Siem Reap Bar were drinks. And we assure you their menu pleases many different tastes. A large portion of the Miss Wong Drink Menu belongs to different extraordinary spirits, beers, and various wine options. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a bite. For sure you can, and the food menu is in sync with charming surroundings. We are talking about home-style Chinese cooking. You’ll have a portion of moreish taro chips even if your goal is just to have a taste of some infused gin and tonic.

Vivi drinking
I love cocktails and I can’t do anything about it. Except drink them 🙂 However, I can nag about plastic straws…

Miss Wong Punch

We had a cocktail or two and here is a must one, Miss Wong Punch! Knock-out house special is based on Gold rum, St. James Amber, and Triple sec. Each spirit comes with different qualities. Gold rum comes with deep, wooden notes intensified with some smokiness and sweetness. Saint James Amber rum is matured in oak casks and comes with spices and dried fruit notes. Both are great combined with orange-infused spirit, Triple sec. To that base, barmen added cranberry, pineapple, mango, and lime juice.

Cold drink and taro snack is a way to go in Siem Reap.

Final Thought

Miss Wong Siem Reap Cocktail Bar is quite the opposite of loud Pub Street behind the corner. Therefore, it is a perfect place to retreat when you want to refresh and enjoy a bite with friends. Why do we think Miss Wong is one of a must-visit here in Siem Reap? Because of its tranquility, cool ambiance, and drinks, of course. Cocktails are solid and in Cambodian heat, they will go down like Prince’s Andrew titles. However, the biggest downvote is plastic straws and there could be some better presentation of the drinks alone.

I hope you liked our Miss Wong Siem reap review and you will pay them a visit.

Price & Location

Cocktails here at Miss Wong will cost you around 6 USD which is a bargain. Here is a link to the location for all who will pay them a visit

The abundant offer in Siem Reap can be overwhelming. Most tourists are focused on Angkor Wat, but that isn’t the only place worth visiting. Actually, the walk down the Siem Reap river will give you a different perspective. On its banks, there is the lovely avenue, and right there we found another treasure. In the lines below we’ll focus on the Sokkhak River Lounge that is within a walking distance from well-known Siem Reap Pub Street.

Sokkhak River Lounge
It is always a joy to see a good design in bars and restaurants.

Sokkhak River Lounge Atmosphere

For those of you, who love greenery you’ll love the Sokkhak River Lounge. There you’ll find a connection with nature almost without effort. Tall windows at the ground keep the view unobstructed and the café well chilled. We particularly loved the terrace, especially in the evening. Although, even more special is the sunset view at their Rooftop Bar. Up there, guests can enjoy the canopy of Siem Reap in changing colors.

Sokkhak River Lounge ambiance
There is a good connection between nature and the interior and that is the right way!
Vishnu God Statue
God’s statues as decoration? This is the Hindu god, Vishnu.
Sokkhak River Lounge
At Sokkhak River Lounge, you can enjoy nice artworks as well.

Menu

On the ground floor, you’ll find an assemblage of invigorating drinks. Whether you crave a cup of coffee or tea, don’t miss their drinks made of fresh fruit. Then again you’ll find a selection of mineral water and a handful of alcoholic beverages. In addition to gin, wine, and beer we must mention cocktails. Although, don’t expect artisanal masterpieces but fresh fruit does taste delicious. We were particularly pleased with the mocktails we had.

Sokkhak River Lounge
Seat inside or outside? That is now a question.

Our Cocktails

White Dragon

Who wouldn’t love the mocktail made with fresh fruit? Pina Colada lovers know exactly what we mean by that. Besides this famous tropical drink, we have the NOBU Soju Dragon cocktail in mind. That unforgettable creation we had next to our NOBU afternoon tea was also made with dragonfruit. At the Sokkhak River Lounge, they sweetened the dragonfruit with pineapple and balanced it with lime juice. What we loved most were the changing flavors. At first, we could taste pineapple, but the aftertaste was focused on dragonfruit.

Dragon fruit cocktail
White Dragon is a perfect example of a tropical cocktail

Sokkhak Punch

Punch lovers pay attention, for a gingery fire that will clear your throat before you finish it. On the first note, you’ll taste fresh orange juice combined with bubbly Sprite. As it fits for a punch there is alcoholic addition in a form of Jameson whiskey. At first, it is fruity but after a sip or two, you’ll begin to pick the healing side of ginger. Here we must confess our disappointment over unbalanced flavors that left us irritated. Luckily, our mocktail kept the fire under control.

Tropical cocktails
Sokkhak Punch and Sokkhak’s Cooler.

Sokkhak’s Cooler Mocktail

A cooling mint is a queen, yet it is greatly matched with the refreshing lime juice. Lychee, the middleman, doesn’t stay out of the picture for too long neither. In fact, it is well present in aromatic sweetness that kept us glued to the glass. We absolutely loved this easy-to-make drink that fed us a little as well. Its thick consistency came out of blended fresh mint and lychee.

cambodia cocktail
I love these straws! Suck d*** plastic!

Monkey Tail

A combination of Grenadine syrup, orange, and juice of a very ripe mango resulted in an intensely tutty-fruity manner. If they would replace the syrup with passion fruit we would love it. Although, they could ditch grenadine entirely and use the juice of green mango. As it was, we liked it even less than the punch we had before.

Monkey Tail Cocktail
Monkey Tail Cocktail – ditching of mainstream syrups would make a huge difference.

Final Thought

Sokkhak River Lounge in Siem Reap will provide an energizing experience at any time of the day. This can be because of the heavy presence of vegetation, but also the place gives off the restful character. What we loved most was the kind service and freshly juiced fruit in their drinks. Another welcoming tribute to nature was also the absence of plastic straws. Just like at the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort we got lemongrass that did the job perfectly.

Sokkhak River Lounge
Chill my friend!

Mocktails will cost you 4,5 USD and cocktails a dollar more, which is a barging. However, here is a link to the location for easier navigation.

The lounge at the Kep Sailing Club is the perfect place to spent hours while watching the descending sun. One might argue that with a million-dollar view, you don’t have to expect much of a service. On the contrary, when we were at the Kep Sailing Club Lounge Bar, we were “happy as a clam”. Surely, idyllic Cambodian’s sunsets and soothing waves played their part, but there is more. On the rest, we’ll focus on the lines below so continue reading our Kep Sailing Club Lounge review. Although, if you are interested in eating at the Kep Sailing Club Restaurant make sure to read our review.

Best beach bar in Kep
Why not wander around the Kep Sailing Club before finding the best spot?

Ambiance

First thing first, summer fun is at home at the Kep Sailing Club. Before we reached the Lounge, we noted activities of all sorts that can happen on this seaside side property. The list is long, so we will focus on the spacious Lounge itself. Most notable is the breezy feel of the open Lounge made of wood. The material is kept in dark chocolate tones that act like a hug with supporting pillows in sunset tones. Next to the bar is a meaningful art piece made of used tins that livens up the back wall. Overall, beach life for sure.

The open design of Kep Sailing Club Lounge is perfect for the beach-side property.
sculpture made of recycled materials
We love this meaningful art piece, it keeps us on track to produce as little waste as possible.

Kep Sailing Lounge Menu

A special place on the menu belongs to the Cocktails, but there are other options. Of course, there is beer, wine, and stronger spirits, but you’ll find alcohol-free options and a handful of bites as well. Our eyes were pointed on mixed drinks so expect the details on those. In general, we enjoyed the experience but we weren’t blown away by artisanal magic. Sure enough, we enjoyed the roasted peanuts seasoned with kaffir lime leaf, chili, garlic, and lemongrass.

wooden fish sculpture
The Gulf of Thailand is a marine gem, filled with life, but the health of the ecosystem is deteriorating every year.

Our Cocktails

Lychee Lime Fizz

Refreshing mint kept us cool till the end but it took over the main wheel from lychee. We missed this fragrant sweet fruit in the aroma, but we got one meaty example inside to nibble on. Indeed, it was a lovely counterbalance to the lime juice. Once the fruit went down the drain, we appreciated moderate honey touch.

Kep Sailing Club Lounge menu
Syrup on the side for those who think that the Lychee Lime Fizz or the Lounge Special cocktails aren’t sweet enough.

The Lounge Special

Sweet pressed citrus syrup with aromatic and orange bitters complimented each other wonderfully. Nevertheless, the drink wouldn’t be such a delight without the heavy influence of pineapple-infused rum. Plantation 3 Star Pineapple Rum bonded with the bitters due to its smokiness and tropical fruit extending much further than just pineapple.

Kep Sailing Club Lounge special cocktail
3 Star Pineapple Rum bonded with the sweet pressed citrus syrup and both aromatic and orange bitters wonderfully.

Pina Colada

Beach bar simply can’t exist without good ‘ol Pina Colada. This Pina Colada was the real deal from start to finish owing to fresh ingredients. Juiced pineapple and fresh coconut were the real gems. Although the 3 years aged Havana Club rum rounded up the drink with its characteristics. Think of caramelized pear and banana, but most of all we picked on the vanilla and smoked oak.

cocktails at sunset
Kep Sailing Club strives to practice ecological consciousness and paper straws are living proof of that.

The Mistake

This mistake smashed us with for our taste too sweet introduction, leaving us searching for the fading passion fruit. We found it in the aftertaste, right where the ginger and aromatic bitters were hiding as well.

Final Thought

Although the view is outstanding, the ambiance lovely, and the summer breeze on point but there is just one detail missing – artisanal cocktails. You know, homemade liqueurs, syrups, more fresh juices and presentations, all that and more creativity as well. I know the majority is just fine with “classics” made of mainstream syrups, but hedonists like us are willing for more. And that is right! Kep Sailing Club Lounge has a lot of potentials, and who knows maybe next time we will be there they will show us all best.

How time flies! It’s been almost two months since our last bar review, so better we come strong with this one. Today we will check Elephant Bar which is situated inside glorious Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, Siem Reap. The Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor was Siem Reap’s first hotel, and it remains the city’s grande dame. There is no secret that hotels like this are hiding some of the most sophisticated bars. Elephant Bar Siem Reap is classic, easygoing, and prestigious at the same time. To find out about our experience, please continue with reading our review.

Raffles Siem Reap
This iconic building has been through some turbulent times in the past and of course, the present is no different.

Elephant Bar Atmosphere

Not so long ago, we wrote about Raffles Siem Reap High Tea and if you remember, we were astonished by how lovely this hotel is. However, we didn’t have the chance to stay here. Probably we can simply call this, the Raffles curse. When we were in Singapore we couldn’t stay at Raffles, due to the renovation, and now again. Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor is just to be renovated as well. Anyway, we will be back in Siem Reap, for sure!

Raffles Siem Reap
The doors of Elephant Bar Siem Reap are open from 4 pm till midnight

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor is all about the charming colonial luxury design and lush details. The same goes for the popular Elephant Bar, which is a snug place with dark wooden furnishings and bright walls. As the name indicates, it is safe to expect some sort of Elephant in a room.

Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor Elephant Bar
Cozy lounge chairs will surely support you if the drinks become too heavy.
antique elephant lamp
It is safe to expect at least one elephant in a room at the Elephant Bar Siem Reap.

Indeed, our eyes caught numerous small statues and giant tusk arching above the Areca Palm trees. Hopefully, the presented tusks are artificial and not real.

porcelain elephant head
At the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor Elephant Bar everything is meticulously clean.

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor Elephant Bar Drinks Menu

Drinks selection at the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor Elephant Bar is broad, to put it mildly. We were drawn to the list of special and all-day cocktails, but sours & fizzes were very tempting as well. Then there is a list of wine and spirit that covers the world’s famous regions for both sections. Here we must admit that the so-called “sipping cabinet” filled with different single malts, rums, bourbons, and rye is bigger than the “grape juice cellar”.

carved glass bottles
House-made specials in carved bottles present numerous creative possibilities, but if you look carefully, there is an elephant behind them 🙂
best bar in Siem Reap
Here one can relish some drinks and unwind.

Interesting Fact
Raffles Hotels have its own house-gin made by Sipsmith. This so-called Raffles 1915 Gin was created to celebrate a 100 years of Singapore Sling cocktail. When you are in Siem Reap, go and try this Gin if you have a chance.

Our Cocktails

Airavata

Signature Airavata cocktail is a must-have drink at the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor. This fruity tropical drink is named after the divine five-headed elephant and therefore served in a handmade elephant mug. Flavor-wise you can expect crème de banana liqueur, lime juice, and fresh coconut juice, aided by malibu and rum.

Airavata cocktail
The only downvote to the tropical Airavata was the single-use plastic straw.

We can say that it somewhat resembled the tropical pina colada whenever we had a taste of the juicy pineapple garnish. What we didn’t like was the single-use plastic straw, hopefully, they will soon move on the sustainable path!

pineapple garnish
Baby pineapple heart was remarkably juicy and sweet
elephant mug
Of course, the drink inspired by the five-headed divine elephant comes in a lovely handmade mug.

Raffles Signature Bloody Mary

Adorable fresh Kampot pepper on top of the deep red drink looks gorgeous, but tasting them makes all the difference. It’s no secret that Kampot pepper is unique, so we grabbed a chance for tasting whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Raffles Bloody Mary
Fresh green pepper adds unique twist to the Raffles Signature Bloody Mary

A combination of Broken Shed Vodka and tomato juice spiced with Raffles Signature mix is spot on when paired with a delicate aroma of fresh green pepper. Even if you avoid the spicy garnish you’ll enjoy the Bloody Mary with its renowned savory notes.

Kampot pepper
Kampot pepper is a delicacy by itself. When you pair it with a cocktail like this you are in heaven. Great job!

Elephant Bar Siem Reap is a stylish place where charming elegance rules.

Final Thought

There is no doubt, Elephant Bar Siem Reap is an exquisite bar, just like it should be. Heritage hotels are carrying a rich story and believe me most of them started in the bar. Sure, this is not a legend like Bamboo Bar but… The ambient of the Elephant bar is nice, the cocktails are on the artisanal level and the service is delightful. After all, this is all we are looking for.

If you are too early for the Elephant bar, check the Raffles afternoon tea at The Conservatory

Price & Location

All-day cocktails come at a price of about 9,40 USD while Raffles Fame costs about 14 USD or more. In case you’ll visit during the happy hour (4-6 p.m.) on weekdays you’ll find some of the drinks are -50%. Yes, Bangkok rooftop bars are about the skyline, but things are more complex than that. Surely, view alone can’t make “the best Bangkok rooftop bar” by default. We will focus on the award-winning Speakeasy Rooftop Bar Bangkok in the lines below. This speakeasy is “hiding” in the Hotel Muse, which is stylish by itself. Now let’s see how well the top two floors of the Hotel Muse Bangkok impressed us.

muse hotel entrance
Check our Hotel Muse Bangkok Review and check how amazing it is

Speakeasy Rooftop Bar Bangkok Ambiance

Where to put vibing bar if not up to the sky? On the 24th floor, you’ll find a few alternatives to the vibrant outdoor area. The main feature must be the lit bar behind which you’ll see how your drinks are being prepared. Here the vibe is more refined, with tall bar chairs and cigar room, called the Blind Pig, right around the corner. As expected, the inspiration from the 1920’s era is most obvious at the Blind Pig. Although, the contemporary touch gets wings on the uplifting beats.

The Saloon Bangkok
The Blind Pig is a perfect place to indulge into some fine spirit.

Fun fact: The “Blind Pig” slang dates back to the prohibition era when it was used for the clubs, selling illegal alcohol. Their main challenge was to stay hidden from the police. Therefore it was nearly impossible finding a blind pig without a hint.

The Saloon at the Bangkok Muse hotel
Electro jazz is the best soundtrack for the view over the concrete jungle.

Drinks

Let’s start the Speakeasy rooftop bar drinks menu review with an extensive Gin selection, counting about 75 premium samples. Of course, you can check the gin library in person before you create a personal twist on Gin Tonic. And not only that, you can make your own Gin Tonic configuration. You can choose the Gin, Tonic, and add-ons. To point out, add-ons extend much more than only cucumber and juniper berries.

cocktails at muse hotel
Having a cocktail above the city has its own charm

As a matter of fact, there you’ll find a bunch of other fine spirits and fine Cuban cigars as well. The drink menu at the Speakeasy rooftop bar Bangkok is particularly known for its array of classic and signature cocktails.

prohibition pohotwall
Speakeasy Rooftop Bar is a design blend of Western and Oriental charm with Prohibition-era influences.

In case you are looking for a glass of wine, beer, or some other spirit like whiskey, rest assured you’ll find that and more at the Speakeasy Rooftop Bar Bangkok.

G & T

This thirst-quenching cocktail’s base is a botanical gin infused with lychee, cucumber, apple, and butterfly pea. All together results in an incredibly compelling fragrant mix, especially when aromatic garnish adds the last word. We’re talking about the fresh kaffir lime leaf and rosemary branch that shines through the purple mix with expanding flavors. To point out the rejuvenating properties in the G&T Butterfly, we must mention the aloe vera juice and tonic, which round up the cocktail perfectly.

Butterfly Pea cocktail
Thirst-quenching G & T cocktail

Czech Absinthe

The Czech Absinthe is the perfect cocktail if you are late to the party or just feel rebellious. Although we might be kidding, this drink is no joke, especially with Absinthe inside the passion fruit shell. You can choose to start with a 50% Absinthe shot mixed with passionfruit juice or submerge it. Either way, you’ll let “The Green Fairy” flying and bonding with the Scotch whiskey and passion juice liqueur. On the nose, you’ll catch the smoky vanilla notes expanding with every sip. Soon you’ll find the cinnamon addition and connect it to the tasty image.

Bangkok Absinthe Cocktail
50% Absinthe is legal in Thailand, well at least it was when we were there.

Grand Mojito

The grand twist on typical Mojito comes with the Grand Marnier orange liqueur, holding the ground alongside rum. As it happens, the mixologist at the Speakeasy Rooftop bar worked around the orange with the addition of ginger, lime, and watermelon juice. Combined with lots of fresh mint and soda, they maintained the renowned refreshing taste.

Speakeasy rooftop bar Bangkok
Grand Mojito and Mojithai

Mojithai

Lead in this mixed drink is the Thai sweet basil, which you’ll find in fresh form, but that is not all. Less obvious, but even more important part of basil is in vapor infused Thai Chalong Bay rum. Don’t miss this drink if you are fond of the sweet herbaceous notes. Let me add that basil reached another dimension once the mixologist perfected the fresh lime juice and zesty wedges additions.

beautiful highball cocktail glass
We are always happy to see a beautiful glass.

Bites

One can have some nibbles to share, or light local or heavier western dishes. You’ll even find nachos, tacos, and ice cream on the Speakeasy Rooftop Bar menu.

Speakeasy Photo wall
Creativity is the driving factor of Hotel Muse Bangkok Langsuan décor.

We weren’t hungry but enjoyed the bar snacks consisting of salty olives and tropically seasoned peanuts.

Speakeasy Rooftop Bar Hideout

If you think Speakeasy Rooftop Bar Bangkok ends here, you are wrong. In the bar, you can find a huge painting, behind which are hiding stairs to the upper real “hidden bar” area. Both night sky and chill vibe rule the Speakeasy Bar’s upper floor.

Bangkok rooftop view
First row view at the Speakeasy Rooftop Bar.

Well, the upper floor somehow disappoints. We were expecting an even more glamorous ambiance or some other themed bar. Instead, we got a green plastic carpet and not an exciting setting. Our sad guess is that the fake grass and plastic garden chairs represent the western influences on the oriental charm.

Blind Pig Muse Hotel Bangkok
Blind Pig is all about the 1920’s prohibition era. However, we missed some cool details and style upstairs.

Fun fact: Back in the prohibition era, one had to speak easy / silently / in codes when ordering the “giggle-juice,” aka booze.

No matters what, Speakeasy Rooftop Bar Bangkok at Hotel Muse is a fun thing with outstanding cocktails and a great vibe. At the end of the day, that is what counts the most. We had fun here for sure and our staying at Muse Hotel got only more exciting.

Hotel Muse Bangkok
Tipsy alert; If you are gonna try more cocktails stay at the Hotel Muse or take a taxi!

The downside of Speakeasy Rooftop Bar Bangkok is the upper floor. We expected much more than plastic furniture and fake grass. Especially when you have a view like there.

straw wars
Hotel Muse Bangkok has no straws policy and we love it!!! Straw wars for sure.

It looks like bars honoring bees are a welcoming trend. First, we found about the stingless Trigona bee at the Bar Trigona in Kuala Lumpur, and this time we set foot into the B-Bar at Intercontinental Ljubljana. As you probably guessed, the letter B at the beginning stands for the native Slovenian Carniolan bee. These species are well known as good workers with strong nerves.

Now, let’s dive into the Intercontinental Ljubljana rooftop B-Bar review, where artisanal cocktails are enriched with the help of Slovenian bees.

B-Bar’s Ambiance

The highest bar in Ljubljana is about urban luxury and sleek contemporary interior design. It offers comfort, including the easy-going vibe supported by uplifting beats.

B Bar Intercontinental Ljubljana
The rooftop bar at Intercontinental Ljubljana has an extensive gin and wine collection, but their cocktails are a must.

We have to take you through the B-bar’s sweeping views from the 20th floor. On one side, you’ll see Ljubljana’s largest and greenest park, the Tivoli park. Between the park and the medieval castle on the hilltop, we also feel in love with the ongoing greenery stretching beyond the Slovenian capital.

Indeed, Ljubljana is green both, in green surfaces as well as an eco-city. As a matter of fact, the European Commission has awarded it the European Green Capital of 2016.

B-Bar Menu

There is no secret B-Bar is about artisanal cocktails and fine drinks. However, before you order, go through the abundant Gin selection that counts about fifty labels, five of them Slovenian. More numerous is Slovenian wine selection in a separate wine menu. There you’ll also find many renowned international wines

When the sun shines through the neatly displayed bottles the liquid comes to life.

Of course, there is plenty of whisky, whiskey, cognac, brandy, tequila, and vodka if one pleases. Despite all, we advise you to try some of the signature honeyed cocktails and mocktails.

Cocktail ingredients
Head mixologist makes all sorts of infusions for B-Bars signature cocktails.

Notwithstanding the bounty of cocktail bases on stock, the head mixologist makes all sorts of infusions. That way, a unique experience is secured and a tasty one if we may add. To keep things exciting and creativity flowing, the menu changes with seasons.

Our Drinks

Common ground for all our drinks was the well-tuned balance between corresponding ingredients. Could that be a link to the natural balance where overkill doesn’t belong? Bees have a role in the ecosystem, bigger than giving us a celestial treat. Therefore, honey is treated with respect at the B-bar.

Intercontinental Bar Ljubljana
Slovenian mixology has experienced significant development in the last few years.

Coffee Sour

The star of this drink is orange, and no, not just because of the garnish. It is true that the aroma of fresh orange zest bonds with the orange and lemon juice. But the Tia Maria coffee liqueur and chocolate bitters give the orange wings. As it happens, light touch on both keeps this drink in the mocktail section.

The star of the Coffee Sour is orange, and no, not just because of the garnish.

Mexican Bee

A very refreshing cocktail, firmly based on smooth Herradura Reposado tequila. Around tequila, lemon and lime form thirst-quenching alliance moderately sweetened with acacia honey seasoned with basil.

One can include edible garnish and explore the power of the slat or red pepper between the sips. Both are in abundant supply as an edible garnish and uniquely change the enticing drink.

Pina Tullada

The taste of the Caribbean coming from the tiki glass exceeded our expectations of the pineapple and coconut mix. We especially loved how the fruity acidity felt close to the taste of the cooked banana. Besides that, the roasted coconut helped the Tullamore DEW X.O. whiskey’s caramel side.

Pina Tulada and Antons Negroni

Antons Negroni

Mixologists respected Negroni’s roots with bees take on the classic. They infused Campari with pollen to get the unique floral aroma and slight sweetness. Bittersweet honeyed notes expand with the lemon zest and Punt E Mes addition. The aftertaste is spicy with lingering bitters, just as it should be. For the final element is Slovenian minimalistic Bratinov gin, made with only four herbs.

Conclusion

I can’t tell you how happy I am to see artisanal cocktails here in Ljubljana. To be honest, the Slovenian cocktail scene was poor and far from creative, but now it is waking up. We got some hints to check some other cool bars. Who knows, maybe we might find even hidden bar here around… No matter what, we will present you with more Slovenian cocktails!

Negroni
Ljubljana is waking up with the artisanal cocktails. It was about a time!

Now, let’s see how our first incredible finding played the game. B-Bar is an outstanding bar, there is no doubt. To point out, our waiter was professional all the time and his creations kept us on toes. Cocktails were nice with the great red line – honey. If you are looking for some exceptional drinks, the 20th floor at Intercontinental Ljubljana is your gig. B-Bar is one of the best bars in Ljubljana and we warmly recommend it.

Anyone who is in Bangkok should celebrate the nightlife here. The offer is crazy and there are bars that are worth praising, not only just a visit. One of these special bars in Bangkok is Liberation bar. To be exact it is a hidden bar or speakeasy if you like. As you know we are huge fans of hidden bars, and if you will read our Liberation Bar review, you might become one too.

Liberation Bar Bangkok
Psssst! Liberation Bar, Bangkok is a speakeasy bar!

About Liberation Bar

The award-winning team at the Liberation cocktail bar has been reaping success after success. Their latest triumph is sowing joy with new flavors that come from modern techniques. That state-of-the-art equipment is just a tool to achieve the wildest mixology dreams. To make everything more excited, Liberation Bar is hidden and has a speakeasy character.

Hendrick's gin bar display
Stylish black interior with a few shiny elements sets the mysterious atmosphere in place.

The Machine: Rotary Evaporator

Rotary evaporator, or rotovap, looks complicated, but the procedure is simple. In a nutshell, the process could be called a reduced pressure distillation. The rotovap is used for removing solvents from the mixture at low temperature while under pressure or vacuum. That can be done once the mixture is heated in the rotary bulb. When the solvent evaporates from the mixture through the cold finger, it gets trapped in a separate flask. That flask catches the concentrated clear liquid packed with flavor.

Rotary Evaporator at Liberation bar
This rotary evaporator is essential for Liberation’s signature drinks.

Mixologists at the Liberation bar Bangkok are pushing the limits of the contemporary mixed drinks. They extract flavor from edible plants, liquids, and even one special waterbug. In the end, the crystal-clear extractions form a delicious “library” that pushes modern mixology to the limits.

Speakseasy Bangkok
At Liberation Bar Bangkok you’ll definitely taste something you haven’t tasted before.

Ambiance

The gloomy minimalist interior design puts the heart of the Liberation bar into focus. Nevertheless, a stylish black interior with a few shiny elements sets the mysterious atmosphere in place. Things get even more exciting once you see the high-tech gear on your way to the bathroom. Chances are you’ll also get distracted by the large display of spirits at the end of the bar. Let’s not leave out the upbeat DJ performance. Can you ask for more?

Liberation Drinks Menu

The liberation drinks menu is divided into four parts. The first half covers innovative cocktails, inspired by the Propaganda-era posters. While the second half of the menu is offering a bounty of Gin, Vodka, Rum, Mezcal, Tequila, Whiskey (Single Malt, Blended and Asian Whiskey), and Borbon.

Chapter Four in the Liberation menu: As is

If you have trouble deciding, then check the menu ahead of your visit to the Liberation bar. Their cocktail selection is plentiful, and many include unexpected ingredients. Once you take that into a count, you know you’ll be amazed. If you still aren’t prepared for the wild adventure ask kind staff for friendly advice.

Vegan war cocktail
Cocktail inspired by the Britain’s propaganda campaign to persuade people to grow their own food.

Our Drinks

Vegan War

Girls might be attracted to the color of a pink gem, but this drink isn’t just for them. Nevertheless, it is a must for all lovers of holy basil (Tulsi or Thai basil). Its sweet aroma goes well with carrot cordial and tomato’s sourness. On the other hand, the red cabbage supplies the depth. Our first thought was about a refreshing healthy drink, with a strong scent of holy basil.

pink cocktail
Not just for ladies, but for all sweet basil fans.
holly basil cocktail
Who thought that Vegan War will be so fragrant, fresh, and flavorful.

Inspiration: Dig on for victory 1939

Britain’s hugely successful propaganda campaign persuaded people to grow their food in the time of WWII. Growing your own food reduces the imports and as we know, it is also more sustainable. Maybe after growing some vegetables people could start respecting food, instead of throwing it into the garbage without a second thought. In addition to that, we all know that fresh is the best, and farm to table is the only right way to go.

Yellow Union Flag

Strength and unity in a single glass deliver mouth-watering pleasure. At first, it is about a fruity combination of re-distilled green apple peel, apple juice, and coffee cherry kombucha. Yet, the presence of Monkey Shoulder whiskey and oolong tea provides the welcoming depth. Both sides come together with the addition of the Osmanthus honey and soda. We especially liked the fizz and caramel sweetness in the aftertaste.

Liberation Bar Bangkok
Mixologists at the Liberation perfectly balanced the modern science and natural treasures.

Apple is the star of the Yellow Union Flag cocktail

Inspiration; Chinese 1947

During the Second World War, the governments used propaganda posters to influence mass opinion in their favor.

Waterbug

Infused and distilled male water-bug is very fragrant and sweet. To support its characteristics, the mixologist added gin and re-distilled vodka as a base. Bedsharp bitters and lemon took care of the gentle counterbalance at every sip. The addition of egg white smoothens the drink and also bonds very well with honey almond syrup.

waterbug cocktail Liberation
Waterbug: a fragrant, sweet and silky drink

Inspiration: Nature is the Real Treasure

Half of the world is still grossed out when insects are put on the table. The other half is enjoying its peculiar delights. Hopefully, a negative mindset is soon going to change with sustainable solutions and processing. If you don’t see what you are eating, it is easier to swallow it, if you like the taste then the prejudice is long gone. Propaganda posters changed people’s minds many times, so accept some changes in the near future. We really loved the somewhat dried mouthfeel of the Liberation waterbug cocktail.

Cacao

Cacao and chocolate are trendy in Bangkok and we checked some chocolate bars before. Afterall, cacao is growing successfully in Thailand, so why not highlight these delights! Here at Liberation bar, we have tried their cacao inspired cocktail and it was outstandingly delicious. All that chocolate flavors combined with Thai Issan rum are on point. The only trouble is putting the drink down! Not only is delectable but holding the cocoa husk feels pretty good as well. Maybe it was even more special due to the resemblance of our dessert at Le Normandie. Yummy.

Cacao: different kind of chocolate treat will spoil you

Inspiration: Thailand

Thailand is rich when it comes to ingredients, and cacao is one of the tasty treasures. When we were at Kad Kokoa we tried a bunch of Thai chocolate samples, and it’s hard to tell the winner.

Final Thought

It feels lightyears away when the invention of fire changed food and drink forever. Scientists say it was about 400,000 years ago, but agree it might be much earlier than that. Less than two hundred years ago, modern science started supplying kitchen appliances that revolutionized modern cuisine. Now we are a step closer to the alchemy and can see what mother nature is offering us in the detail. At the Liberation bar Bangkok they celebrate the modern science and natural treasures hand in hand. That policy and creative team list the Liberation bar on the list of the best bars in Bangkok.

Have you ever heard about the Jungle Bird Cocktail? Well, Jungle Bird is a notorious tiki cocktail from Kuala Lumpur. It was made in 1978 at the Aviary bar of the Kuala Lumpur Hilton, as a welcome drink that becomes popular in no time. Therefore, you can find it served in a lot of places nowadays. One of those places is even named after it, and this Jungle Bird flies high. Not only that, it is one of the best cocktail bars in Kuala Lumpur, but it is also the number 44 on Asia’s best bars in 2019. Now enjoy our JungleBird Bar Review.

old fashioned lantern
Lanterns shine a light on the rattan furniture, bamboo, rainforest wallpaper, and rather disappointing plastic greenery.

JungleBird Ambiance

This tiki bar is only a few minutes away from Sofitel Damansara but in a more quiet part of the KL. Creative solutions are visible on every step of the JungleBird Bar tiki bar. Rattan furniture, bamboo, rainforest wallpaper, and rather disappointing plastic greenery will surround you.

JungleBird Bar Review.
The JungleBird bar is especially well-stocked with rum.

It can happen that for a moment, you might even forget you are still in a metropolitan city. At JungleBird Bar in Kuala Lumpur, you’ll be at ease in no time. We only missed windows, which would make conditions for real greenery and a fresh air provider.

Jungle inspiration is visible on every step of this tiki bar.

JungleBird Bar Menu

Tiki cocktails and in-house creations were our primary focus. Nevertheless, if you prefer something else, you’ll be happy to hear they serve beers, ciders, spirits, as well as red and white wines. In addition to that, you’ll also find the abundant rum section on the JungleBird menu. On top of that, add the alcohol-free mixed drinks and commercial soft drinks that everybody loves; tea, coffee, juice, fizz? You name it!

JungleBird Menu
Even the JungleBird menu is inspired by nature.

Daily from 5 PM to 9 PM, and on Sundays, the JungleBird KL caters to the Jolly O’clock menu. On the happy hour, the JungleBird menu is a handful of cocktails, rums, spirits, and tap beer. Really, this is just the limited addition to the regular menu at a happy price.

Junglebird bar Kuala Lumpur
After a drink or two, you’ll surely leave the city behind.

Our JungleBirds

Classic Junglebird

This tiki cocktail is sweet and quite strong on Diplomatico Mantuano rum with apparent Campari bitters. We immediately got the idea of a hot and humid place, where something direct is needed. Our cold indoor situation pointed us towards solving a mystery of bittersweet Campari liquor.

Junglebird bartender
This bar is number 44 on Asia’s best 50 bars, 2019.

JungleBird Kombucha Coolers

Kombucha is tricky and probably the reason why this mocktail is made in small batches. Also, fragrant lavender, lemongrass, chrysanthemum, and camomile, need some time to develop such a divine smell. Honestly, floral fragrance is part of a wonderful aftertaste that gets wings on kombucha fizz.

kombucha mocktail
JungleBird Kombucha Coolers is a tasty alcohol-free mixed drink.

Conclusion

And the last words for our JungleBird Bar Review… The reason for such a success of the JungleBird bar Kuala Lumpur are great drinks. With creative mixology comes music, and passion evolves. No wonder this bar is a great addition to Kuala Lumpur’s nightlife. It is unique and away from prying eyes. Still, I can’t stop dreaming of this being the rooftop bar… Hopefully, someday it will be.

However, as a downside, we should mention no side snacks with our cocktails, and a few fails in a presentation.

Looking for an impressive bar with an edgy class here in Bangkok? I have one for you, but there is one problem. The problem is you need to have Iron Balls when you are visiting it. I am talking about the cool bar here in Bangkok – Iron Balls Parlour & Saloon, where they serve same-named gin. Ok, seadogs, let’s go to our 20.000 leagues under the sea adventure.

Sing Sing Theatre ceiling
Yours under the sea adventure can finish at the bar next door: Sing Sing Theatre

What Is All About?

Remember the last time when we were wandering in Kuala Lumpur and found this picture-perfect bar – Iron Fairies? Well, Iron Balls Bangkok is part of the same family, with a few differences. Most noticeable is the Asian Gin revolution, which takes part in their distillery. Iron Balls is quite popular Southeast Asian gin. Their in-house distillery didn’t stop with drink, but they rather built a bar around this gin. Let’s check an ambiance of this ballsy gin temple, shall we…

Iron Balls Gin
It took Ashley Sutton and his team 2000 runs to get Iron Balls Gin as we know it today.

[adsforwp id=”10626″] [adsforwp id=”10630″]

The Ambiance of the Iron Balls Parlour & Saloon

The father of Iron Balls’ concept is Ashley Sutton, an extremely talented designer who is standing behind many outstanding projects. Like Iron Fairies also this bar begins with the moody setting adorned by steam-punk theme and peerless touch. In a word, this bar looks funky.

Iron Balls Bangkok
Iron Balls Bangkok begins with the moody setting adorned by the steam-punk theme.

When we were there, DJ was playing some old school funky jams on her LP stereo. Neat! The main theme of the bar and hmmm gin itself is vintage scuba diving. 20.000 leagues under the sea if you like.

Phonograph record
When we were there, DJ was playing some old school funky jams on her LP stereo.

The Drink Menu

The pillar here is, of course, Iron Balls Gin, which recently got a great partner – Vodka. You can enjoy each on its own or mixed into a delicious cocktail. The head mixologist here is Carson Quinn, who worked his way through some of Ashley Sutton’s top bars in Asia. Let me explain that the menu is not extensive; it has only twelve cocktails on it. However, as a gin lover, all I need is a gin with lemon and good old G&T for my darling.

Iron Balls Bangkok
Naturally, the pillar on the menu is their Gin.

Our Drinks

My choice was reasonable and full of respect – gin with a slice of lemon and rocks on aside. Vivi, on the other hand, took classic Gin&Tonic (Fever Tree Elderflower).

Iron Balls Gin
Iron Balls bar got its name after this gin.

The base for Iron Balls Gin is pineapple and coconut, which are fermented for about a week. Then, the spirit is macerated with 15 botanicals. The recipe was in work for three and a half years, so don’t expect a reveal of all herbs. However, among others, there are ginger, lemongrass, mace, nutmeg, pepper, cinnamon, coriander seeds, ginseng, and juniper berries. Juniper berries are keeping this gin in the classic zone, while tropical herbs are keeping it tropically floral. On the nose, I got strong ginger and cinnamon with mango and pineapple. Juniper berries came out more at the back, especially in the aftertaste. Taste is fruity with citrus hints and medium aftertaste. This gin is clever and ballsy at the same time.

Gin tonic
This Gin is wonderful on the rocks and with tonic.

Vivi’s G&T was fabulous as well. Tonic prolonged floral notes from the gin and got along with its fruitiness perfectly. Elderflower with ginger and lemongrass is a classic hit, so I think this tonic might be just perfect for it. Lovely G&T!

Nautical touch to the Iron Balls

Conclusion

There were more than 600 recipes attempts to get Iron Balls Gin as we know it today. As you can see, Ashley Sutton is a perfectionist and his approach to gin destination is damn serious. We can only confirm and applaud his dedication. Iron Balls Gin is amazing and Thailand deserves a good gin like this. If you are in Bangkok, I strongly recommend to stop there and have a nautical drink way.

Singapore, buckle up, Bangkok is going on the right lane. It looks like Bangkok is going through a far-reaching culinary revolution, leaving nothing behind. Michelin stars went crazy, people are interested in chocolate, wine, freaking omakase, and even slow dining. Wine bars are popping one after another, and name Gaggan is known worldwide. Talking about Gaggan, he opened Wine bar here in Bangkok – Wet Bar. We saw some crazy wine bars and believe us when we say that this one is one of a kind.

neon sign
Neon signs at the Wet Bar Bangkok affect the mood in a casual manner.

Who is Gaggan

Chef Gaggan Anand is the father of the fourth-best restaurant in the world, according to 50Best. Titled with a few Michelin stars, making better Indian food in Thailand than any other in India, moving boundaries and ripping hearts apart. Yes, my friends, he closed the doors of his flagship – Gaggan, and things will never be the same again. Well, at least not as Indian progressive cuisine dinner… He is going to open another thrilling dinner, this time with fellow chef Takeshi ‘Goh’ Fukuyama in Fukuoka, Japan. We were too late to try his creations, but we won’t miss Japan for sure.

Gaggan Anand
He stole Curry and I did this photo? There is a tone of these photos on the web and no credits… Hey Gaggan, do you remember who took it?

Another Name

The man from behind the scenes of this cool wine bar is sommelier Vladimir Kojić who connected with Gaggan through the love of wine. His burning wish was to run a wine bar and Gaggan loved the idea. Kojić is a big lover of natural wines, so the abundant offer of those here didn’t surprise us. Biodynamic all the way!

Neon sign logo
At the time of our visit, the Wet Bar Bangkok had 20 wines per glass and more than 150 labels by the bottle on offer.

The Ambiance of the Wet Bar

Punk rocker, somewhere in the middle of the ’70s, takes his shoot of warm heroine on the dirty public toilet and steps into West Germany Bar and falls down on the floor of the American Barn. WTF, you must be asking. This is not common wine celery imitating wine bar, nor modern all in glass St. Regis bar. This is out of the script bar, which entrance looks more than a speakeasy than anything else. Your first sight is a “dirty” public toilet marked with guest’s signatures. However, the next room looks more like a bar, and the ambiance is great. Neon, bricks and chilled vibe. I must admit they stepped on the right way with the first floor, but second is kinda fail. It looks like someone got afraid of this design idea and smooth it with more casual attic. But hey, the idea is what counts.

Please leave your “baggage” at the entrance.

The Staff

There is no Thai who could tell me about wine, said one once. Sure, that’s why here you will be greeted by Croat, Milan. He is “mercenary” from Kojić and he knows wine stuff. We got a lot of information through the great chat and a little bit of amusement, all in one. To be honest all the staff is very pleasant and professional. BTW, Milan and Vladimir, we are still waiting for your call for lunch in Slovenia!

Rustic-barn style rules the upper floor of the Wet Bar Bangkok. I told you they should go to the end!

The Idea Of Wet Bar Bangkok

Maybe this is just my observation and designers of this place don’t consider this as an option. Still, this is my interpretation of the Wet Bar Bangkok design. When you step into the toilet and end up sitting inside the funky bar you will feel relaxed. All the problems are flushed away in the first room. You can’t help it but leave the “baggage” at the door and in the second room, you are just another guy who wants to enjoy his glass of wine. No need for asking yourself if you really deserve this one. Am I educated enough? Do I even know what is Cuvee… No man, this is chill-out zone to have a good glass of wine. But we Sommelier.. blah blah. Nope! Places like this are JOY, my friends. And sometimes simple pleasure is all you need.

Wet Bar Bangkok
Yes, we left our mark.

Wet Bar Bangkok Wine List

The first page of the wine menu starts with “A fair wine must look where it comes from, the year it comes from, and have the guts of the person who made it.”, Jules Chauvert. Here are a few rules – natural wines, raw wines and biodynamic. The wine list is more than decent, especially if you consider these are all-natural wines, and wine list like this is not easy to find even in Europe. All compliments to Kojić, who is picking labels. Anyway, at Wet Bar they serve about 20 wines per glass and more than 150 labels by the bottle. Fascinating, right? Bottles come mostly from Western and Eastern Europe. With some well-known names like Paolo Vodopivec, Domaine Georges Noëllat, Domaine Ponsot, to less known like Nando, Slovenia and Ivan Kosovec, Croatia.

Our Wine Selection

Loire Valley is not famous for its wines for nothing, that’s why Vivi opted for Domaine Sébastien Riffault “Les Quarterons” Sancerre, France, 2014. This organic bad boy is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, fresh with a medium body but great yeasty character. On the nose some honey, apples, figs and zesty sensation. In the mouth full of salty minerality, buttery smoothness and grass finish. Certainly oxidized, but still fruity. I could taste botrytis as well which shows late vintage. To sum up, outstanding Sauvignon.

Cheers to simple pleasures!

My selection was Ivan Kosovec Frankovka Blaufrankisch, Croatia, 2017. Sure Croats are well known for great wines, but this one is an underdog. It cames from the less known region – Moslovina, continental Croatia where the conditions are a bit harsher than Istria and Dalmatia. However, this didn’t stop Ivan Kosovec to produce this great Blaufrankisch.

Perfect decoration keeps the worry at bay.

This wine is well-balanced and somehow easy. Fresh, medium-bodied with a medium but fruity aftertaste. On the nose black fruits with some notes of leather. Taste is as expected, fruity but with lower acidity. Alcohol is low here as well, which makes this Blaufrankisch fresh and joyous wine.

Conclusion

I will be fair as a raw wine. Wild’n’Free Diary is not a regular customer at wine bars on our travels. After all, we have all these wines on the catch of our hands back at home, so it would be nonsense to spoil us with wines in the region like Asia. But when it comes to special bars like Wet Bar, we are there. Wet Bar Bangkok is a pleasant cozy place, which can rub in the face to all rich ex guests from neighboring Gaggan that it is not about the fancy, but about the joy. And it is not rare to see people who have “all” but lack of joy.

When it comes to wine, there is no need for a motive.

To end this article, we fell in love with the wet bar, not as a place but as an idea and lovely staff. I wish Gaggan, Vladimir and Milan a nice success story with their natural wines in the middle of Bangkok.

Talk about recycling; from toilet paper holder to the candle holder.

Price and Location

Wine is expensive here in Asia and that’s not a secret. Luckily we are heading back home, where people literally pour wine downhill just to get an empty barrel for a new vintage. Anyway here at Wet Bar Bangkok, the price for a glass starts at 15 USD and goes up. Here is a link to the location if you don’t know where the Gaggan street is 😉
