Park Hyatt Saigon Afternoon Tea Review: Tea at Park Lounge

Editor’s Note: Updated September 2026. This article preserves the experience described in our original review, published in September 2018. The hotel’s current address, contact details and website were checked again.

Our Park Hyatt Saigon afternoon tea began just as a tropical storm reached Lam Son Square. We made it into Park Lounge before the rain became serious, then watched the plants bend outside while tea arrived beneath the crystal chandeliers. The setting was elegant, the service polished and the Dammann Frères selection unusually broad. Not every bite reached the same level, though the warm scones, delicate salmon canapé and carefully made desserts gave us plenty to remember.

The Quick Verdict

Is afternoon tea at Park Hyatt Saigon worth booking?

9.3

What We Loved

  • The grand Park Lounge setting and its crystal chandeliers
  • A strong Dammann Frères tea selection with attentive refills
  • Warm scones with a crisp crust and compact crumb
  • Detailed presentation across both savory and sweet courses

What Could Be Better

  • We would have preferred clotted cream with the scones
  • The pâté needed more seasoning for our taste
  • The matcha macaron shell was a little too soft

Best for: Couples and afternoon tea enthusiasts who value a formal hotel lounge, a serious tea list and precise presentation.

We reached Park Hyatt Saigon just before the tropical rain began.

Park Lounge Ambiance

Park Lounge gave us a calm place to wait out the storm. Thunder repeatedly broke through the quiet room, while the plants outside bowed under the rain. Inside, my attention kept returning to the crystal chandeliers and the small bands of color moving across them as the light changed.

Park Lounge provided a polished setting for a long afternoon indoors.
Artwork and decorative objects gave the lounge more character than a standard hotel lobby.

The ornaments suited the scale of the room and could also be appreciated from the first floor. This was a formal space without becoming stiff, which made it easy to settle in for tea while the weather did its worst outside. The stand and tableware also belonged naturally in the room, with enough detail to reward a closer look.

The crystal chandelier was the visual center of Park Lounge.

Tea Selection at Park Hyatt Saigon

The tea list was one of the strongest parts of this Park Hyatt Saigon afternoon tea. I chose Jasmin Chung Hao from Dammann Frères, a green tea scented with jasmine flowers. It had a pronounced floral aroma and enough strength to remain interesting as the meal progressed.

Fresh flowers added color to the afternoon tea table.

Ian ordered L’Oriental, another Dammann Frères green tea, flavored with passion fruit, bush peach and wild strawberry. Passion fruit came through most clearly, with the strawberry appearing more quietly at the end. The two teas were very different, and both paired comfortably with the savory and sweet courses.

Our Dammann Frères teas were served in glass pots.

Scones

The scones arrived warm, so they were the first bites we tried after taking the photographs. Their crisp crust gave way to a compact crumb, the texture we hope to find in a well-made scone. Homemade strawberry jam added brightness, while the whipped cream was lighter than the clotted cream we would normally prefer.

The Park Lounge afternoon tea stand combined savory bites, scones and small desserts.

Even with that preference, the scones were a confident start to the food. They had been handled carefully and served at the right temperature, two details that matter more than elaborate presentation once the first bite is taken.

We started with the warm scones before they had time to cool.

Savory Bites

The savory selection was attractive and varied, though it was also the least consistent part of the set. By then, my jasmine tea had become stronger and slightly bitter, which worked surprisingly well as a palate cleanser. We began with a soft sandwich of ham and mild cream cheese, made with fresh bread and good-quality fillings.

One of the savory courses was presented on a clear glass plate.

Next came pâté with a breadstick and a thin caramelized topping. The contrast between the smooth pâté and crisp sugar was clever, though the filling tasted too strongly of pork for us and needed more seasoning. A little strawberry jam left from the scones brought the dish into better balance.

The pâté had a crisp caramel topping, though its seasoning did not quite work for us.

The coated bread with air-dried salmon was much more successful. Fruit caviar and fresh mint lifted the gentle fish flavor, while the small bun with young chives and crunchy onion disappeared only after I had made Ian wait long enough for me to admire it. I have always had a weakness for miniature food, and this one earned its photograph before its fate was sealed.

The tiny bun with chives and crunchy onion was almost too neat to eat immediately.

Together, the salmon canapé and small bun restored the balance of the savory course. Both relied on contrast and careful proportion instead of heavy seasoning, and both suited the measured pace of afternoon tea.

The final tier held a colorful assortment of small pastries.

Sweets

The pastry selection showed the kitchen at its most detailed. Before starting, I asked for fresh water for my now very strong tea, and the staff refilled the silver pot without hesitation. We then worked through the desserts one by one, beginning with a biscuit cup filled with dark chocolate cream and finished with a small cream quenelle.

Even the tea stand carried small decorative details.

Its brittle shell softened slightly where it met the rich chocolate, creating a pleasing change in texture. A chocolate canelé followed, with a dark caramelized crust and soft banana flavor inside. The profiterole was Ian’s favorite: its nutty filling was piped in a rippled line and finished with a crunchy garnish.

The profiterole with nutty filling became Ian’s favorite dessert.

The matcha macaron with red bean filling was well judged in flavor, even if its meringue shell was softer than it should have been. That was a small technical weakness in an otherwise careful assortment. We saved the rose jelly cube until last, and it rewarded the decision with a clean floral finish that lingered after the final sip of tea.

A petite rose-shaped sweet continued the floral theme.
The matcha macaron had good flavor, although its shell was slightly soft.

Conclusion: Is Park Hyatt Saigon Afternoon Tea Worth It?

For us, Park Lounge delivered one of the most complete afternoon teas we tried in Saigon. The room had genuine presence, service remained attentive throughout, and the tea selection received as much care as the food. The pâté and soft macaron shell kept the set from being flawless, while the scones, salmon canapé, profiterole and rose jelly left the stronger impression.

This is best suited to travelers who want a proper hotel-lounge ritual in central Ho Chi Minh City and do not mind giving an afternoon to it. Our 2018 price of under $30 was excellent value, though today’s seasonal menu and price need to be confirmed with the hotel. If you enjoy this style of experience, our Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur afternoon tea review offers another perspective on how the brand approaches the tradition.

Park Lounge made an elegant refuge from the rain outside.
Flowers on the table echoed the lounge’s decorative details.
The chandelier remained the room’s most memorable feature.
