AFTERNOON TEA

St. Regis Bangkok Afternoon Tea

I think we all agree, Bangkok is a mecca for afternoon tea lovers, right? This time we turned into St. Regis Bangkok. Afternoon tea at the St. Regis Bangkok consists of International and Thai versions. Last time we were at the Authors’ Lounge, where we got an unforgettable Thai version of afternoon tea, so we opted for the current Thai Afternoon tea again. There is nothing better than in search of Thai royal cuisine and renowned Thai flavors. Now let’s check our St. Regis Bangkok Afternoon Tea and see if they can please sophisticated taste.

The Drawing Room is an airy place with comfortable sitting.

Ambiance

With a touch of Thai embellishment, contemporary luxury is well established at the St. Regis Bangkok hotel. With contrasting bright and dark color palette and comfortable lounge chairs, St. Regis Bar is no exception at this glamorous affair. There tall ceiling and glass walls contribute to the spaciousness that flows over Bangkok’s towering skyline.

Window shades will protect you from the heat when the sun hits the glass wall.

Besides that, it is great to have the greenery of The Royal Bangkok Sports Club in the immediate vicinity. As if that wasn’t enough, we were also entertained by live music. Smooth Jazz…

Drinks Menu

Attention, hedonistic souls! If you want to spice up your cup of TWG beverage, you can choose among the mixed drinks infused with tea or coffee. In case you want to start your St. Regis tea time fit, you’ll be impressed by their healthy options. Certainly, we can confirm the abundant offer in the Drawing Room menu that fits any insatiable appetite.

Selection of TWG tea includes exclusive tea blends.

TWG St. Regis Exclusive Blend Tea

We had a chance to taste the tea wichs has its very own limited-edition pendant, designed by the Wan Bao Bao. A tiny teacup made of 18K rose gold with diamonds, a red ruby, and St. Regis monogram, to be specific. How about tea? The tasty interpretation could link to the floral aroma of rose and jasmine in the aftertaste. Gems reveal themselves through the chocolate, nuts, and malty notes. In between, we caught the wild thyme and rounded floral sweetness with a hint of white chocolate.

We recommend the St. Regis Exclusive Blend. Even if it is served in WW1 German helmet.

TWG Chocolate Tea

With a second tea of our St. Regis Bangkok high tea, we toasted to our “Bangkok’s chocolate tour.” As expected, the rich black tea, dark chocolate, and cocoa beans delivered the perfect chocolate illusion. The aroma is an essential generator of taste and this tea smelled just like chocolate.

Beautiful copper teapot isn’t part of the afternoon tea set.

Tropical Scones

Scones took a tropical turn exceptionally well. Instead of raisins, Chef opted for the coconut addition. We loved both flavor and mouthfeel of coconut scones. Also, its mild flavor paired wonderfully with the cream and clotted cream. However, once we tasted the passion fruit jam, we couldn’t put the spoon down. Only after we ran out of it, we tried the papaya jam, which was a real treat as well.

English tea time special took a tropical turn extremely well.

Savories

St. Regis Thai afternoon tea presents the sweet-sour-spicy combo in typical Thai morsels.

Tapioca Balls

The charm of the tapioca balls is hiding in its bouncy texture and mild taste that encourages the chewing action. Through the motion comes into the focus sweet pork filling with peanuts.

Thai Royal Steamed Dumplings

Rose shaped steamed dumpling honors the tradition and held the fried garlic in place. Crisp garlic adds seasoning and texture to the soft and chewy texture. After the first crunch, one catches the smoked fish filling, which reveals peanuts’ presence.

Salmon Spring Roll

Harmony of tender salmon and crisp carrot evolved around the manageable green chili sauce. A combination of fresh herbs and lime refreshed the mouthwatering bite wrapped in thick rice dough.

Wrapped Bites

Biting into the betel leaf wrap exposed the roasted coconut, peanuts, and a piece of lime. Syrupy sauce combined the filling and bonded with the zesty lime. Besides the incredible taste, also the unique texture of the betel leaf just called for seconds. Both of us were certain that we could eat a hundred of these.

Salad in Crispy Cup

The golden crispy cup looked like Pai Tee, but the filling was beyond expectations. Soft tuna with sweet and sour support almost unnoticeably revealed the pleasing chili heat.

Chicken Curry Puff

The comforting taste of spicy potato and chicken meat wrapped in a fair amount of fried pastry. Altogether it was a crunchy bite, whose moist filling was refreshed by anise.

Chicken curry puff had a tasty moist filling.

Sweets

St. Regis Bangkok afternoon tea menu took us through the traditional Thai Royal desserts that are increasingly rare to find.

Thai Coconut Balls (Khanom Tom)

Anyone who likes coconut will appreciate its presence in every layer. On the outside, the young coconut shreds cut through the soft glutinous rice ball. Also, sweet pandan infusion supports the caramelized coconut filling in the middle.

Too beautiful to eat and yet irresistible.

Sweet Sticky Rice (Khao Niew Nha Goong)

Thai’s love of sweet sticky rice stretching beyond mango is contagious. For our St. Regis Bangkok afternoon tea, we got to taste it with well-seasoned shrimps. Indeed, the taste of the shrimp was well masked, making it a surprisingly enjoyable dessert.

Steamed Flour with Coconut (Kanom Sai Sai)

The pudding-like texture of the steamed coconut milk and flour around the coconut filling tasted absolutely delicious. It was full of moisture and pleasant caramel sweetness of crisp coconut. This traditional dessert is increasingly difficult to find, as it requires time and handwork.

Banana leaf is eco-friendly traditional packaging that contributes to taste.

Sticky Layer Cake (Khanom Chan)

Rose shaped bite is extremely gentle in both flavor and texture. Chewing this rice cake is almost unnecessary even though it is hard to resist the soft bounce. Overwhelming is also the meaning of this traditional Thai dessert, which means advancement and continuous success.

Sergeant Crown (Jah Mongkut)

Anyone who eats the Jah Mongkut will feel like a member of the Thai Royal family. As a matter of fact, in the past, only the Royals were able to taste it. The process of making Jah Mongkut or Sergeant Crown takes about 7 hours to make and is a rare finding nowadays. Golden flower includes egg yolk, but as in the previous desserts, only the color gives it away. Taste is sweet and floral with hints of coconut.

Beautiful Sergeant Crown or Jah Mongkut used to be enjoyed only by the Thai royal family.

Look Choop

Look Choop is another dessert that used to be made only for the Royal family. Now, Look Choop is an Instagram hit with its beautiful shape, and the taste is uniquely gratifying. It is fair to point out that idea for it came from the Portuguese marzipan treats. Due to the absence of almonds, the Thai spin focused on the mung beans. It is unbelievable how someone can turn the beans into the mouthwatering dessert. Smooth mung bean paste tasted more like sweet chestnuts seasoned with coconut milk.

Cute Look Choop shaped as mangosteen, mango, and rose apple. On the bottom is golden floss.

Golden Floss (Foi Thong)

A popular dessert at ceremonies and weddings is meant to bring happiness, good fortune, and long-lasting love. We sure were happy to be enjoying the St. Regis Bangkok afternoon tea with luscious golden locks. Golden color comes from the egg yolk, which is poured into the boiling syrup. We really liked the texture of thin rice noodles and slightly smoky aroma.

Final Thought

St. Regis Bangkok afternoon tea is amazingly delicious and we are really glad that we opted for Thai traditional one. Looks like Thai traditional desserts positively surprise us every time, and we should join Thai desserts lovers club on Facebook or something. Lovely tea, lovely desserts, lovely ambiance with only a few flaws.

St. Regis Bangkok hotel will spoil any hedonistic soul.

For a start, those small tables are truly small and there is no way to enjoy afternoon tea on that. Another minus can’t be counted fairly, because it’s TWG’s flaw. I am talking about those hideous teapots. Who in the world came out with this idea? “Hey guys, let’s make WW1 German helmet teapot holster”!

Another downside at St. Regis Bangkok Afternoon Tea are jams. In the menu, they introduced us with pineapple, ginger, tangerine and lime jam, in reality, we got papaya and passion fruit jam. Don’t get me wrong, those two were amazingly delicious, but did you heard me? Ginger and lime and oh my god…
