Our advice: Choose Pollen for the most satisfying combination of coffee and baked goods, check INK & LION’s reopening status if the coffee itself matters most, and visit Ha Tien for a characterful break near Bangkok’s historic center. Pompano and Met Cafe remain in this guide as memories from our original cafe trail, but both are now closed.
Bangkok rarely leaves coffee lovers short of options. Between specialty roasters, tiny bakeries, floral tearooms and vintage rooms filled with curiosities, choosing a cafe can become a pleasant problem of its own. Our picky side still expects more than caffeine: careful preparation, good ingredients, a setting with personality and service that makes us want to stay for another cup.
This guide to six of the best cafes in Bangkok is based on places we visited before the article was first published in 2021. Bangkok’s cafe scene has changed since then, so we have kept our original impressions while clearly separating them from the operating information checked in September 2026. Two cafes have closed, yet their stories still reveal what made this particular coffee trail memorable.

These were independent visits, not a blind tasting under identical conditions, and the ratings describe those original experiences. Pollen Baked Goods was the most complete stop on our Bangkok cafe trail, especially for anyone who believes coffee becomes considerably more persuasive when a bakery counter is involved. The rustic space displayed a changing selection of Canadian-inspired bread and pastries, while the charming tableware and genuinely friendly staff made a small cafe feel unusually generous.
We began with a soft doughnut under a white chocolate glaze, then moved to a chocolate cherry tart that delivered both contrast and richness. The cookies were simpler but no less welcome beside coffee and the hot chocolate dip. Pollen did not depend on one dramatic signature item. Its strength was the pleasure of choosing several things and discovering that each had been made with care.

Best for: Coffee lovers who refuse to choose between a good cup and freshly baked pastries.
INK & LION Café treated coffee as part of its creative program. The bright industrial room hosted changing art exhibitions, old Japanese school benches and coasters by Miss Kanjanabat that could be bought on the spot. Bags of beans for home brewing completed the feeling that this was a working coffee space, not an interior designed only for photographs.
The detailed menu allowed us to choose a Thai-Brazilian blend with the confidence that we knew what should arrive in the cup. Its strong iced coffee brought balanced nuttiness and a chocolate finish. We followed it with Ella milk tea by Mali Ateli, where mellow red tea, floral notes and a restrained touch of honey worked together beautifully. Small cakes and macarons from Size S Coffee & Bakery waited at the counter, although the drinks were the real reason INK & LION earned one of our highest scores.
Is INK & LION Café worth visiting?
Best for: Serious coffee drinkers who also enjoy independent art and thoughtful design.
The Blooming Gallery promised blossoms and romance, although some of the decorative plants would have benefited from a patient dusting. The room still had the dreamy atmosphere we expected, and the food did more than pose prettily for the camera. This was the cafe for a slower afternoon of tea and cake, with coffee available when flowers alone were not enough to keep us awake.
Our lavender scone and red velvet cake both arrived warm, each hiding a small surprise. The scone carried a touch of lavender oil, while white chocolate waited inside the cake. We preferred the scone with the house-blended Coffee Lovers tea, a vanilla-scented black tea with a gently bitter finish. Since no list of Bangkok coffee shops should hide entirely behind a teapot, we also ordered espresso and enjoyed its nutty character.
Is The Blooming Gallery worth visiting?
Best for: A romantic coffee or tea break where atmosphere matters as much as the cup.
A deep-blue facade and potted flowers drew our attention away from the busy street. Once the door closed, a floral centerpiece and open-plan interior changed the mood completely. Coffee and food occupied the ground floor, while the shop above invited browsing. We liked the idea of considering a purchase over a drink before carrying it to the counter.
The graphic menu covered Thai and Western food, ice cream, cakes and coffee. Ian’s espresso began with a pronounced acidic kick, then softened into a pleasantly buttery finish. Milk calmed the sharpness in my cup and revealed flavors that reminded me of a French croissant. Met Cafe worked because design and coffee supported one another without either becoming an afterthought.
Was Met Cafe worth visiting?
Best for: Design-minded cafe visitors who enjoyed browsing with coffee in hand.
Ha Tien Cafe was undeniably photogenic, although its preserved birds pushed the decoration beyond our own comfort zone. Those fond of taxidermy may find the dramatic vintage interior fascinating; we were more interested in the cake display. It provided plenty of eye candy without requiring us to contemplate the birds for too long.
The lavish chocolate cake justified its appearance, but the blueberry cheese pie tasted powdery and disappointingly conventional. An espresso moving from sourness toward a bitter finish restored our palate. We were also troubled by the use of single-use plastic cups for iced drinks, including those consumed inside. Ha Tien offered strong atmosphere and one excellent cake, but its inconsistencies kept it below the leading cafes in this guide.
Is Ha Tien Cafe worth visiting?
Best for: Travelers exploring old Bangkok who value atmosphere and a memorable chocolate cake.
Pompano Roasted Cafe occupied a vintage furniture showroom at the Camp Vintage Flea Market. The constantly changing interior drew a crowd whenever we passed, and we understood the attraction. Finding enough calm to order was another matter.
The desserts appeared without names or a menu, and the crowd made simple questions unexpectedly difficult, so we stayed with drinks. A hot latte and long black introduced the house blend of Thai and Indonesian beans, recognizable by an acidic note reminiscent of coffee cherries. The signature chocolate drink offered a sweeter alternative, while craft beer widened the choice after the caffeine hour. Basic-looking cakes and single-use cups for cold drinks weakened an otherwise characterful setting.
Was Pompano Roasted Cafe worth visiting?
Best for: Vintage-market visitors who enjoyed acidic coffee and interiors with plenty to inspect.

INK & LION was the more focused choice for coffee enthusiasts, provided it has reopened when you plan to visit. The Blooming Gallery suited a slower afternoon of tea, cake and photographs, while Ha Tien offered the most memorable stop near Bangkok’s historic sights.
Pompano and Met Cafe can no longer join a present-day itinerary, but removing them entirely would erase part of the city we experienced. Bangkok changes quickly. Cafes close, new ones arrive and yesterday’s favorite becomes tomorrow’s memory, usually before we have finished deciding whether to order one last cake.
