BBQ by the pool in the Singapore

March 4, 2018

Well, well. It looks like everywhere Wild’n’Free diary comes we have some friends or make some new ones. This time, nothing was different. In Singapore, we hang out with our friend Goga, who lives there with her husband and knows the city best. She was our guide and extremely good company. Luckily, she is also a huge foody, so we all enjoyed our foodie adventures.

Here, in Singapore, the community of foreigners is strong and they have some meetings, barbeques, and other socializing activities. This time, there was a barbeque party which was hosted by a Slovenian guy Luka, who is living with his German girlfriend here in Singapore. There were around 20-25 people and luckily, we were among them. The weather was great until 6 PM when the rain started pouring out of nowhere. This shower was actually a good thing. We gathered together under two smaller roofs and the mingling was engaged with 100%. We were introduced to Daan and Lala. A Dutch guy and a Russian girl who grew up in Eastern Germany. They were passionate scuba divers and we have already arranged our scuba diving school in the future. Be prepared, WNFdiary will discover places even under water in the future. They are both experienced travelers, so the discussion really took off.

We also meet a couple from London. He has Malay origins. When he heard we were preparing to visit Malaysia, he was thrilled about it. He is a passionate foodie and our notepad was quickly full of new ideas for food to try in this country. I must admit, he initiated a desire for some unknown Malayan cuisine and we are already looking forward to new food and experiences which are coming upon us.

There was also a Bosnian girl who migrated to the USA and is working for the US embassy here in Singapore. She was excited to hear the story of our traveling to Bosnia and the food we ate there. Well, she was with an American guy. There was another interesting couple. She was German and he was an Indian guy named Siddhartha – how cool is that. To be honest, his appearance was more related to one of the Middle Eastern guys than to stereotypical Indians. Anyway, their stories were also amazing, and I will never forget the joke he told us. Well, I complained about the security here in Singapore, how they gave me a random check on the subway. It must be because of my beard. And Sidd was looking at me with his big brown eyes and said: “Welcome to my world, friend”. Later, he made it clear, that he was getting those random checks on a regular basis and now he is well used to having those extra checks on the border. Funny and sad at the same time. Just because of a stereotype and American media…

Well, there was also a French-Slovenian couple and many others who made the two of us totally dull. We made some new friendships and connections, which is amazing and this is one of many reasons why we are traveling. To explore something new and exciting. Those people with their stories are amazing and we are glad we had the opportunity to get to know them.

Oh, of course, it was a poolside barbeque party. Well, Luka did his best to make sure the guest had an amazing time and he ordered a catering service. They were grilling pork with sweet and spicy marinade, chicken wings, beef, incredible delicious ribs, shrimps and even mushrooms. There was also otak otak fish in banana leaf and bunch of salads with brahmin rice and very tasty bread. The choice of drinks was also huge. There was an ice-cold beer, cider, red and white wine from all over the world. Even Veuve Clicquot champagne was pouring into glasses. I don’t need to mention that the security had a lot of work with us because we were loud until the morning hours.

Thank you again for this great barbeque and opportunity to meet new people. We really appreciate that and wish you all the best and the best of luck.
