The color theme of the afternoon tea matches the Le Bar's ambiance perfectly.
Our afternoon tea at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara took place at Le Bar, in the hotel’s high-ceilinged lobby beside Damansara Heights. The setting was one of the most polished parts of the experience: generous light, warm timber, a dramatic chain curtain, and an afternoon tea stand that looked properly considered. This Sofitel Damansara afternoon tea review explains where it succeeded, especially in atmosphere and presentation, and where the food did not quite meet the same standard.

Is Sofitel Damansara afternoon tea worth booking?
Best for: Travelers already staying at Sofitel Damansara who value a photogenic hotel setting and should check the current menu before committing.
Le Bar gave this afternoon tea its strongest argument. The lobby’s very high ceiling and glass wall brought daylight across the gray, brown, and reddish palette, while the chain curtain and hanging chair stopped the large room from becoming anonymous. A nearby tower did not spoil the view. On the afternoon we visited, the sun reached the space and gave the finishes a little more warmth.
Tea was taken seriously enough. We could choose from a small selection of TWG loose-leaf teas and settled on Royal Darjeeling and Passion Fruit. The hotel did not present the full range associated with the brand, though that was hardly realistic; the selection covered the essentials and suited an afternoon tea well. Nespresso drinks and a Valrhona chocolate drink were also available separately, while the tea and Illy coffee were included with the set we ordered.
Our Royal Darjeeling was the more memorable cup. It had the light body and gentle astringency we expect from Darjeeling, with fruitier notes that worked well beside the sweeter pastries. More importantly, the pot was refilled without fuss. It turned out to be useful once the last orange cake arrived.
We are fussy about scones, for good reason. These walnut-raisin scones were dry and firm enough that quietly splitting one became an awkward little task. They came with three Bonne Maman jams, honey, and lime-zest cream. We preferred the honey and cream together, though the otherwise well-staged service did not rescue the scones themselves.
The savory level contained only two pieces, a smoked-salmon croissant sandwich and a chicken-and-mushroom pie. The salmon tasted fresh, although the mayonnaise and tartar sauce dominated it. The pie had the shape of comfort food without much of its substance. A third savory bite, or a more characterful version of either one, would have created a better balance against the desserts.
Desserts gave us a mixed result. The dark chocolate brownie, with pecans, ganache, and cherry jelly, was moist and confidently chocolatey. The praline, with apricot and raisin, had a similarly pleasing contrast of fruit and crunch. The coffee macaron also made good use of its dark chocolate base. The fruit sponge, cheesecake, and orange cake were less persuasive, with the last one running dry.
Our Sofitel Damansara afternoon tea was a case of strong surroundings and uneven food. Le Bar looked the part, service was polished, and a few chocolate-led pastries did what they should. The dry scones and thin savory course held the experience back. Kuala Lumpur has serious afternoon tea competition, so we would check the latest menu before booking. For us, Le Bar’s setting, presentation, and service were compelling. The scones and savory selection were less convincing, so its value depended heavily on the current menu.
