How We Rate High Teas?

Probably you are asking how can you trust us with the rating? Let’s just say we are 100% foodies with a rare condition called – honesty. The world is going to end soon, and if something is not good, it is not good. There is no time for bull****. Our high tea reviews have six criteria, scaling from 0 to 10. These are atmosphere, service, tea selection, presentation, bites, and value.

Suffolk House High Tea

For a nice high tea experience, we need a great ambiance that makes sure we enjoy our afternoon tea bites at maximum coziness. At the Suffolk House, you can enjoy your tea accompanied by birds singing and a light breeze. This colonial building is old 215 years and their terrace is still serving the same goal – Afternoon tea pampering. Sadly, other criteria didn’t meet our gold standard, and here you can read the whole Suffolk House High Tea Review, to see what I am talking about. However, if nature is your friend and you like peacefull surroundings, this high tea outlet is perfect for you.

Nature lovers and serenity seekers

2PM Lounge High Tea

The open space design of the 2PM Lounge supplies enough privacy to keep the conversation going while sipping on a cup of Ronnefeldt tea. If your topic is sensitive, there is also the option of a private room. We suppose this must be one of the businessmen’s favorite spots in Georgetown with trendy snacks. 2PM Lounge afternoon tea is delicious, international and stylish. It combines neatly displayed savory pieces, scones, and sweets on a three-tier sandwich stand, as well as two cakes per person from their daily selection.

The only downsides here are the jam and butter, which need some improvement – just changing the butter to clotted cream would make a huge difference!

Farquhar Mansion High Tea

Hedonistic souls watch out for the fairytale similarities while you’ll eat off the “Cinderella pumpkin” afternoon tea stand. At Farquhar, you’ll certainly feel you landed in the parallel universe with the lavish colonial theme happening all around. For the Farquhar afternoon tea, you’ll have a modest selection of Ronnefeldt tea with all-time classics. Surely you’ll find something to compliment the perfect scones. All treats for our Farquhar Mansion high tea sent us straight to seventh heaven. Farquhar’s celestial afternoon tea also looked picture-perfect, like it just stepped out the book. Any downsides? Yes, the ambiance could be better, it is quite a dark place.

Macalister Mansion High Tea

Welcome to the Macalister Mansion’s very uplifting Living Room, spiced up with modernized Peranakan charm. There, we felt at home and really enjoyed spending time. Macalister Mansion afternoon tea was a delicious mixture of high tea and afternoon tea snacks accompanied by TWG tea. In other words, it was sort of a little lunch which started with appetizers and absolutely delicious corn soup. Actually the whole tray did soothe our cravings for western flavors successfully.

E&O High Tea

Time at the dreamy E&O heritage hotel will make you happy even before you’ll find their 1885 restaurant. There you can enjoy the wonderful E&O high tea set full of luxury treats. The most important item on the afternoon tea set is the scones, which were spot on with homemade jams. Still, the sweets were the ones that made this set the best afternoon tea in Penang. Everything was just perfect, including the service.

Extra Tip For The Best High Tea in Penang

All right afternoon tea lovers, we found the best high tea in Penang, and now we are giving you some extra tips. If you have a chance, we warmly recommend you to stay at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel. Not just to indulge in their afternoon tea but also to enjoy their hospitality and colonial snug.

Swimming pool at E&O
Check our Eastern & Oriental Hotel Review and see why it amazed us.

On top of that, only a few meters down the road from E&O Hotel is the Dan Cafe, where the lush green plants surround the main doors on both sides. This micro outdoor oasis is a place where you can share a table with friends and enjoy some seriously good desserts.

Dan cafe order coffee with matcha affogato and matcha lava cake.
An order like this is always a good morning sign.

We could sit at Dan Cafe for ages.
